smurf! you have absolutely killed me with that idgie x ruth fanvid 😭😭😭
If it makes you feel any better, the overwhelming rush of feelings killed me, too. >.>
I was a bit overwhelmed by the reactions to that original Fried Green Tomatoes piece I did. If you reblog my junk, I totally click and read any tags you might add. Every. Single. One. So be warned, mwaha.
The overwhelming response was the shock of any FGT fanart existing at all, which makes me sad. The other sad part is that a good portion of the tags were "I don't know who these girls are, but they're cute." What?? Young ladies, get thee a copy of this movie (and book) RIGHT NOW. I just watched it while I began packing up my apartment and, despite trying to time THE EMOTIONAL SCENE so I'd be in my closet (hahahaha), it didn't work out and I was a sobbing mess on my couch. Every frickin' time.
So yeah. Did this quick sketch in between filling boxes. How do I have this much kitchen stuff??!!
Idgie and Ruth were such GOOD FRIENDS, they always lived together, did everything together, raised a child, co-owned a business, held hands wherever they went, skinny-dipped in the moonlight, and were SO PLATONIC AND FRIENDLY like good friends are! Because that's what it means to be friends! Spending your entire life six inches away from the side of your very good platonic female friend, who happens to be female!
I am so thankful my mother showed me the film, Fried Green Tomatoes, several years ago at such a young age. It is a favorite story of mine, both the novel and the film. my love for the film lead me to the novel which has such a positive view on women and I strongly suggest picking it up!
Am I the only one who genuinely believed that Ruth & Idgie were besties? It wasn't til scrolling tumblr that it ever occurred to me that they could be lesbians in an unforgiving place and time.
Mind blown. Wanting to re-watch. And feeling royally stupid. Please tell me I'm not the only one who believed that their love was the love borne of 2 best friends....
Best part of the book/movie! (Though the book tells it better.)
