alright my friend, because you said you enjoyed making rec lists: i am intrigued by tanith lee but she has about 9 million books, and it sounds like they are of highly variable quality. if it is something you would enjoy, would you make me a short list of what you would recommend to me specifically? (arguably this is a selfish thing to ask in a public ask instead of a DM, but aren't asks more fun for this sort of thing?)

There is a certain subset of Tanith Lee books which are about angry, reckless young women messing with a society which is trying to contain them, and I think those are the ones I would recommend you start with, including but not limited to:

Biting the Sun

Black Unicorn [series]

Wolf Tower [series; also YA]

These don't fit that above criterion but I would recommend them to you specifically for other reasons:

I thought about you and I saw one of those revolving Chinese lanterns. The orange flame at its centre, and the moving shadows it casts.

You are both very warm and enthusiastic (the word I thought about first was 'ebullient'. do people use that word? ebullient), but also deeply contemplative. I love how you pick apart your own thoughts with a certain wry humour but also an absolute dedication to nuance. I admire your comfort with discomfort. This is an ancient ask meme, whoops. 1. Fall 3. Probably my stuffed clown, Mookie, who lives at my parents’ house-- him and books.  4. Unfair question. I really like pure kelly green the best, I think, but I love them all so much.  8. I have a lot of recurring places in my dreams; I’m often able to navigate them. There are places I like being in more than others (and naturally those don’t show up as much), so... it’s really cool when I get to go there. This sounds sorta Mystic Woo Woo but it’s true. 23. There’s a certain sparky feeling that happens to me sometimes when I’m thinking through questions about how a book works or how I’m writing something... and there’s this feeling of empowered embodiment that happens to me when I’m playing games (and writing, too), and I think those two things are somewhat connected & feed into each other. That, and moments of intimate emotion shared between me and people I care about, are probably my favorite parts of being alive. How’s that for an answer, Pads?

the blue that is visible at the horizon on a long late summer evening when the sun has just slipped out of sight but twilight hasn’t fully crept up to wipe the brightness from sky.  also i am quite fond of deep lilacs and lavenders.

@idionkisson​ idk I’d like to think I won’t completely turn into a socially-regressed mole person just because I can’t go anywhere for a couple of months but to be fair I’ve never been in a situation like this before, all my exiles are self-imposed (and indulgent, because holing up in a room of one’s own is definitely a luxury to us formerly-homeless)

once hermitage becomes a state-mandated compulsion it’s a whole different story. maybe I’m not exaggerating after all, who knows

i am. it’s uh-- it’s not good yet though. i also really am writing the poem that ends in a vaudeville-via-jerry garcia couplet, but it was a “commission” (unpaid non-optional demand) from my grandmother for my grandfather’s birthday, so that one will............. probably never be good.

however, did i ever show you the poem i wrote about worms, which are a metaphor for idk desire or abjection or something?
