unironically my hero academia is one of the ONLY "futuristic / set in the future" universes where I think homophobia actually still remains. Like, maybe before the first quirk it's eradicated or at the point we are now, but as much as it regresses society I completely understand homophobia coming back purely because of the obsession around quirks. Like, instead of religious reasons (because whoooo boy! i DON'T want to touch religion in mha from a worldbuilding standpoint) it's borderline eugenics.
