what are harry's thoughts on pansy parkinson :-)
purely from harry’s standpoint - the portrayal in the books of her is hollow, because that’s how harry views her. he has a very strong stance against bullies, and pansy in their early days embodies that mentality he loathes. he finds her shallow and shrill and associates her with draco who we all know harry doesn’t hold a very high opinion of. he knows she views him as about the same and is comfortable with not interacting very much with her.
he’s not surprised when it’s her voice that rises above the stunned silence in the great hall. then again, he might have anticipated anyone in the room to do the same. on a fundamental level, he never understood pansy’s bigoted views. probably because harry had been on the end of so much hate growing up, probably because he is more likely to think he’s worthless than to consider himself better than anyone. -- but he understands fear.
though it sparked a touching movement of his protection, pansy’s instinct to protect herself ( and, consciously or not, everyone in the room ) humanized her in a way. harry very frequently views things in absolutes, this moment in the final battle definitely helped steer him away such a mindset.
