The finale is one hour, but there's an hour long special ahead of it, starting at 8PM EST. The episode airs at 9PM EST, or at least that's how I understand it! They're just marketing the two things together as a special event. :)

That’s what I’m thinking! Like he’ll take some time to “fight his own battles” and then come back later on in the season (however long it is), at least for the end if nothing else.

I actually think it would be better if he didn’t come back till the end because all his friends do is mess up his life not intentionally but they do. Hopefully he’ll come back and have a girlfriend at the least. He needs to not be lonely.

Julie said that Matt would be back in season 8, but it doesn’t sound like he will have a leading role! Maybe for a wrap-up more than anything.

Ohhh okay! Makes sense. Oh plus we don’t even know if TVD is getting a full season for it’s last so we’ll probably see everyone back at the end.
