One person, two consoles (the Wii is my brother’s)
One of the things I knew I needed when I started college in 2015 was a new console, obviously. I was content with the Xbox 360, there were still so many games I had yet to play that had come out for that generation, the graphics were still good. I convinced myself I needed the next generation Xbox because it was better and newer. There are also at least 3 other consoles in my house with countless games I have yet to play, but they’re old, from the 90s or late 80s so they weren’t for me. While there was nothing wrong with my Xbox 360, I proudly unpacked my Xbox One in my freshman dorm to give off the impression that yes, I am a girl who plays video games. It didn’t matter that I didn’t need a new console, my desire for a new console became reason enough to treat it as a need. I acted in the fashion expected when our consumer economy pushes people towards always buying products, not because of the need but because of the novelty and the idea that I may have what others may not.
