In conjunction with Gin Wilcox, Phnom Penh Community College is running an 8 session IELTS Intensive Preparation Program over 4 weeks.
The aim of the program is to improve the 4 basic skills tested in IELTS exams, and to focus on tips and techniques necessary to increase the IELTS score by at least one band.
A higher IELTS score can open the door to countless career opportunities within Cambodia. It can also lead to scholarships for study abroad.
There is a maximum class size of 12, to allow for more individual help to each student.
Program Summary
Day 1 – we will take a practice reading test – 1hr- to gauge the level that you are currently achieving. Then we will look at techniques and tips to improve the score. We will focus on true/false and Not Given questions, and multiple choice, and short answer questions.
Day 2 – Task one writing. Initially building vocabulary needed to improve task one, and defining the structure of the essay. Looking at the different question types and creating quick and easy plans to follow in order to improve time-keeping in the test. By the end of the session we will have produced a full task one essay in groups of two or three.
Day 3 – we will take a practice listening test – 30 minutes to gauge the students’ level. Then we will look at techniques to improve the score. At the end of the session we will complete an individual task one writing.
Day 4- Task Two writing. We will have an overview of the different types of task two essay. We will spend time identifying the question and how to answer this. Time will also be spent on paragraph structure and topic sentences. We will produce a full task two essay in small groups.
Day 5 – Speaking test practice for the first hour. Topics, discussions and timed speaking activities. The final part of the session will be an individual task two writing practice.
Day 6 – Reading test skills. Review Headings Matching and other summary style questions, and learn techniques to improve these skills. At the end of the session we will do a full practice test.
Days 7 and 8 – we will focus on the specific needs of the group, and we will agree as a group which skills we need to focus on. We can do a mixture of all of the skills over these 2 sessions.

Gin Wilcox (UK) - Trinity CertTESOL (Prague), Bachelor of Arts (UK)
Gin has worked in Cambodia for over four years as both a Senior EFL Teacher at Australian Centre for Education and now at the National Defence University as lead contractor. Gin’s extensive experience includes English teaching in Italy and Morocco. She has helped many students with their IELTS preparation, and years of experience have helped her to develop a strategy to improve a student’s IELTS score.
