Im 18 years old & this will be my first time voting & what ive noticed the last few days (thanks to your wonderful voting tips) is that its kinda stupid how I have to vote for someone in my riding to represent me in the house of commons but the person that i vote for might be right for the Nation as a whole but not for my town. Thats my predicament, I like a certain party but an independant in my riding seems right for my town but i wanna help be a deciding factor for a new PM.
There is a system that would fix this issue.
Mixed Member Proportional Representation. Its a voting model that the NDP endorses, and it would allow you to vote for the party you support (and want in government) but also offer a second vote for the local candidate that you want to represent you.
The party votes would go to ensure that the popular vote % = the same % seats in Parliament while the local vote would exist in a similar First Past the Post format.
