Last night at the #romanceclass #feelssohot event. Look at the cover of #ifthedressfits , it's a completely different guy, and yet @mrfredlaw managed to make Max perfectly sweet, funny and sexy just the way he had to be (with uh, extra). And then @salvevillarosa matched him perfectly with Martha's sassy but shy self. I wanted to cry but I was too kilig. Did I write this? What have I done?? Thank you @minavesguerra for making this happen and @laylatanjutco for pushing this scene to this point huhuhu.

If the Dress Fits by Carla de Guzman My official opening statement is that this is a healthy book. *If you're rolling your eyes in disagreement right now because the earliest scene already shows Martha bingeing on fastfood fries, stop reading and disappear from my life. I don't need your negativity here, okay?

Okay. So anyway, this book is about healthy relationships, healthy self-image and this is healthy on our country's local tourism. Let me show you how:

While Martha and Max's friendship is both envious and swoon-worthy (I love that I can call them M&M's!) the best relationship I found here is the Aguas Family's tight-knit closeness. Nevermind if the Aunts are sometimes overbearing and controlling, or if Maggie/Regina feels like they're undermining our dear Martha with their achievements, #fitnessgoals or otherwise; when the family goes through a rough patch, everyone is on-board. And Martha's parents, her Dad in particular, deserves the 2017 Parents of the Year award, not only for their unconditional acceptance of Martha for who she is, but moreso for noticing subtle things like their daughter's true moments of happiness.

The scene with Wagyu Beef Steaks stands out to me the most because it showcases both Martha's father's A+ parenting, but also Martha's A+ view of herself. I love it that she's not 100% confident 100% of the time (that would be psychologically unhealthy if she was) but she loves herself completely, flaws and all, especially when it matters.

And while the act that this plus-sized heroine shares my appetite already got me sold, Carla throws in vivid and on-point descriptions of places from our home country, at least some parts of it relevant to the story. My highlights are the paragraphs about Manila streets and its ability to "...magically [conjure] freak traffic along major roads during every downpour." That's something only those who have lived in Manila for a while would appreciate. Then there's Tagaytay and that fateful restaurant! (Which I'm pretty sure actually exists in real life!)

And of course, Dangwa, both for the scene that unfolds there, and for the vivid imagery that for a while, really took me back to a place I used to frequent in college.

I would opt out of talking about the romantic parts of this book because I don't want to take away the kilig moments from future readers. I will leave this, though: if you want to read about a well-rounded heroine, physically, emotionally and all, fall in love with the most unassuming, sweet and bookish man (with secret abs!) in possibly all of Manila, then If the Dress Fits is the book for you!

4 of 5 Stars. I feel like the effect of Tita Flora's announcement needed more treatment (i.e. Regina's emotions; there was huge money involved in the equation now...) but that's just me, nitpicking. LOL

I thoroughly enjoyed this and I can't wait for my sister to finish reading this so we could fangirl over this. We might even try to follow Martha's foodtrips because I am seriously craving sweet and salty things right now!
