Trying to figure out when I stopped taking selfies. I used to take selfies as a form of self care. I'd get all made up and do my hair. I've been growing out my eyebrows and upper lip hair for over a year now. I can trace the drought of selfies to that time. Not waxing, plucking, or shaving my natural body hair makes me feel closer to the earth and more in tune with the rhythm of the universe. It feels subversive and radical, but I still feel self conscious about it. I struggle to take a picture of myself that I can deem "attractive." I want to invent a new attractiveness that doesn't require me to change hide or destroy parts of myself. So this is me. My worth is not determined by my attractiveness to mainstream cultural norms. I am worthy because I am a product of the universe and the atoms that make up my body travelled light years to get here. I am beautiful because I am made up of the strength of all my ancestors before me and the ambition of all my children after.
