Letter to My Brother
(November 24, 2014)
Years from now, you may ask me about this. You may ask about Mike Brown and everything that happened here after his death. Even now, I'm not sure what to tell you.
This world is dark and hopeless sometimes. Especially for people like us: lower class minorities. I want to build a better world for you so that when you grow up you don't have to experience this. I wish I hadn't already exposed you to the hard truth s of the world you're gonna face. I wish you could be as free and innocent as I was at your age. But I guess all I can do is what I'm doing now. Try to do what's right. I can try to make the world a better place and create positive change.
All I can do is hope for you, my brother. I hope I can succeed at my goals. I don't want this to be the world you inherit from Mama's generation or mine. There is so much work to be done and we aren't even at the part of shutting down the system yet or rebuilding a new one from scratch.
