One thing that facinates me about Bratislava is the sculptures everywhere around the city. I found this bronze plate of Mickey and Minnie Mouse around the main Old Town Square of the city. Bratislava Castle (Slovak: Bratislavský hrad, German: Pressburger Schloss, Hungarian: Pozsonyi Vár) has been a dominant feature of Bratialava for centuries. - The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danube river in the middle of Bratislava. Most SNP bridge, taken from the hill of Bratislava Castle. - Most SNP (Most Slovenského národného povstania) or Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising, commonly referred as the Novy Most (New Bridge) or UFO Bridge, spans over the Danube in Bratislava. It was constructed in 1967 and opened in 1972. It is the world's longest bridge to have one pylon and one cable-stayed plane. - A special attraction is the flying saucer-shaped structure atop the bridge's 84.6 m (278 ft) pylon, housing an observation deck and a restaurant, which since 2005 has been called UFO (previously, Bystrica). - Most SNP bridge is an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge with a main span length of 303 m (994 ft), a total length of 430.8 m (1,413 ft), and a width of 21 m (69 ft). Meet Schöner Náci (or Schöne Náci), a renowned Bratislava character of the mid-20th century. This old man is the only statue which is silver (the rest is bronze). He is also the only statue of a real existing person. - Schöner Náci, born Ignác Lamár, was the son of a shoemaker and grandson of a famous clown, also Ignác Lamár, and was inspired by the latter's example to bring happiness to the streets of the city. But some other rumors says that he was in love with a woman who sadly did not love him back. This disappointed him so much that he went mad and people could often see him giving flowers to random women he met in the streets, greeting them with the words, “I kiss your hand” in German, Hungarian and Slovak. - He always wore a hat - which you can also see on the statue. He mainly greets people on the Sedlárska Street. The Slovak Radio Building is one of Bratislava‘s dominant architectural features. It is shaped like an upside down pyramid. It was constructed in 1967 and finished at 1983, at a time when socialist realism was the major art form in Slovakia. - The building was included in a list of the 30 ugliest buildings in the world. Nevertheless, both local and international architectural circles today acknowledge the building’s positive value. This exceptional structure inside the city is a witness to the time when it came into existence. - The building is 80 metres high and has a 522-seat concert hall with a large concert organ. This is Slavín, a memorial monument and military cemetery in Bratislava. It is the burial ground of thousands of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during World War II while taking over the city in April 1945 from the occupying German Wehrmacht units. Meet Čumil, Bratislava’s somewhat notorious sewer worker statue. The odd statue, officially titled “Man At Work”, was installed in 1997 as part of an effort to spice up the look and feel of the area which was traditionally marked with drab Communist-era architecture and decoration. The statue oftenly got hit by vehicles and also some pedestrians by accident. In order to protect drivers, amblers, and most importantly, Čumil himself, the city installed a warning sign just above his head.
