We had a chicken scare this morning. Some dogs broke through our fence into our yard, three chickens were missing, and one was hurt. The chickens were flinging themselves at our back door, either to get our attention or try to get inside to safety. Poor Rung, our hurt chicken, put up quite a fight. Her feathers are all over the yard and I put all the chickens I could find back into the coop for safe keeping. While Runt was in there, she laid an egg. And she's walking around and eating and drinking. She seems a bit careful in her walking, but thankfully not seriously injured. We found our three missing chickens a few hours later. They wisely hid. I'm so glad they're ok. I was SO upset, y'all. These chickens trust us. The husband is going to calm down a bit before visiting the neighbors with the dogs. Two of our six Easter egg chickens and all three of our remaining Rhode Island Red chickens are laying. Sadly, we lost one of our reds to a hawk yesterday afternoon.
