Oxeye daisy in the Apple Orchard @ Ightham Mote Kent by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Most of the fruit trees can be found in the orchard, where the bee hives are situated; a traditional placing as the orchard is accessed through an opening in the cutting garden..Often growing in swathes along a roadside or field margin, the oxeye daisy is just as at home in traditional hay meadows. The large, white, daisy-like flowers are easy to identify.Cheerful, prophetic and mystical, there’s more than meets the eye to the humble oxeye daisy. Look out for them on roadsides and woodland edges.

Ightham Mote and its gardens are owned by the National Trust and open to the public.The house is a Grade I listed building, and parts of it are a Scheduled Ancient Monument.Dates from the 14th century.

Ightham Mote, Kent: The Stable Courtyard by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: As you walk into the stable courtyard, from the Orchard there are formal lawns and bright herbaceous borders. In the 17th century it was a working farm, as well as a forecourt to the house, with stables and farm buildings on three sides and a large oval carriage circle.

Ightham Mote Outstanding 14th-century moated manor house, gardens by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Nestled at the bottom of a path sits a picture-perfect, 14th-century timber-framed manor house, on its own little island surrounded by water. Built nearly 700 years ago, this house has seen many changes and been owned by medieval knights, courtiers to Henry VIII and high-society Victorians. The gardens are as equally diverse as the house - a formal lawn, flower borders, secret glades and a sweetly scented cuttings garden. And then there are walks and views taking in lakes, an orchard, ancient bluebell woodland and Kentish farmland.
