It seemed strange to the former princess how they had fallen into this pattern so easily, so seamlessly. As if it were something that were natural or part of their lives for the longest time, though in truth Yue might never have thought that such a routine would exist between herself and the Fire Lord.
There was a pavilion on the grounds of the castle in which, at night, it became illuminated by the soft glow of the moon. On the nights when the moon was full Yue would wait here for the man, and they would spend hours simply speaking with one another or silently enjoying the others presence. After so long of being alone in the skies, watching people but having none to interact with, it felt beyond wonderful to once more spend time with someone.
On this night Yue sat on the floor of the pavilion with the Fire Lord's head resting in her lap, him playing idly with one of her long braids. They'd settled into a familiar, comfortable silence as they so often did on these nights and neither of them seemed bothered by it- it was part of their routine. Yue stared out at the moon, wondering how long it would be until she was forced to leave once more until the moon again became full- that was the only time she had enough strength to give herself a solid form after all. And as she was wondering about this she began to find that she didn't quite care how much time was left.
Certainly she wanted to spend as long as possible here, but even if their time were to end within a few moments or a few hours, it wouldn't upset her. Because, in this moment, she was content and happy, something she hadn't been in what felt like the longest of times. The thought caused a small smile to come to the spirit's lips and a light hum to emanate from her. Glancing downwards she found that he was staring up at her, eyebrow raised, and it caused her to chuckle somewhat as she shook her head. "It's nothing," she assured him, smiling still. Though his curiosity still remained, he shrugged it off and she soon watched as his eyes slipped shut.
And just like that, the Fire Lord was sleeping. Yue watched as his chest rose and fell in a rhythmic pattern, and she observed how calm and untroubled he seemed. Brushing a few stray hairs from his face the former princess leaned down and placed a light kiss to his forehead, lingering for a few moments before once more looking towards the moon that shone down on them. Yes, she was happy in this moment because in this moment she had him with her. And that was all that she needed.
