WHEN CHALIDA ZHONG FLEES EARTH in the dead of night she has three things in her bag. 1. twenty-thousand dollars in liquidated bills, a handle of kentucky bourbon - aged twenty years, and a pair of bedazzled dior sunglasses. when she lands on mars chalida zhong is dead and heart srisevok is born. raised on the upper east side of manhattan heart's childhood was a heady mix of swedish boarding schools, lunches at le bernandin, and sneaking out of the marble penthouses her father kept at different points in the city. her mother, much like her daughter was a bored socialite who had even less interest in having a daughter than she did in being married. her father was old money - fortune 500 conglomerates and caviar for breakfast. and in the middle of it all a young chalida desperate for some sort of attention. but her father's attention is domineering at the best of times and cruel at the worst. still she acts out, lashes out at anything she can - ruins business dinners and ends up on the cover of the social papers in handcuffs. when she was eighteen he demanded this behavior come to an end. she was getting married whether she wanted to or not. from that point on it became near impossible to leave the house. heart knew that just leaving new york wouldn't be far enough. so she liquidated her trust fund shoved what she could in boxes and bags and bought herself a first class ticket to mars. after she landed she shook off her old name. taking on her mother's maiden name and the nickname she'd had growing up. she quickly blew through her trust fund partying and in need of quick cash began escorting. due to heart's life in new york high society she blended seamlessly into the upper echelons of sora. her rates skyrocketed and more than money she began collecting information. by twenty-four heart had blackmailed her way into the upper ranks of sora. she'd amassed enough money to quite escorting entirely and opened nexos. it wasn't enough to run the most successful nightclub in new jakarta though. rumors ran through the place like water so heart gave her staff an objective. hear something? come tell her and reap a healthy bonus on top of an already generous salary. heart developed a reputation for knowing things. after all who wouldn't trust a beautiful woman in a pair of designer heels? what could she possibly do to betray some man who thought himself far more intelligent and savvy than her. for the right price she'd tell you the rumor she heard. of course if you wanted to thank her by sending her some sort of gift she'd never be upset by that.

Always "Val," and never "Valerio Dizon"—unless it was his mother scolding him for staying out too late. Val was the kind of guy who made people feel at ease. Popular, good-natured, the one who’d help walk an old lady across the street without a second thought or share his lunch with a classmate who’d forgotten theirs. Up until high school, he never aspired to be anything more than what he was, a regular kid with a decent life in New Jakarta’s Marwar District.

Born to a single mother who ran the family bakery, Valerio’s Bake Shop, Val’s life followed a comfortable, if predictable, routine. The bakery was a local favorite, known for its warm, flaky pastries and the kind smile his mother greeted everyone with. For Val, the future seemed simple: he’d take over the bakery, maybe work part-time during college, and continue the family tradition. Ambition wasn’t something that had crossed his mind. Why would it? Life was normal. It was fine.

But even in his laid-back existence, he held an unwavering belief in justice. Though he was one of the popular kids, Val always made sure everyone was included, that no one felt left out. He’d step in when the neighborhood kids got too rough, making them apologize if they bumped into someone. Laws and order kept life safe, and that’s how Val liked it. Stable. Secure.

Until it wasn’t.

The robbery was a shock. A bakery of all places. The desperation in New Jakarta was growing, people were hungry—not just for food, but for survival. Val remembers running home, heart pounding, fearing the worst. The storefront window was shattered, glass littering the sidewalk, but his mother, though shaken, was unharmed. Relief washed over him, but reality punched him straight in the face—their safety had been an illusion, a fragile thing easily broken as the bakery’s window.

At the scene, Val’s eyes were drawn to an Overseer, an imposing figure clad in sleek armor, weapons glowing with the eerie light of Hextech crystals. The Overseer moved with authority, surveying the damage with a calm, focused demeanor. Val had never seen anything like it. The man approached him, asked if he was the owner’s son. When Val nodded, the Overseer placed a heavy, gloved hand on his shoulder. “Be strong,” he said, his voice steady. “Protect your mother. We won’t always be here.”

Those words struck something deep within Val. The Overseer’s presence, the power he wielded, and the responsibility he bore—it all crystallized in Val’s mind. He wanted to be strong enough to protect those he loved, to uphold the laws that kept people safe. For the first time, Val felt a drive, a purpose that went beyond the bakery and the simple life he’d always imagined.

From that day on, Val’s path shifted. With less than a year before his high school graduation, he poured himself into his studies, especially anything that would help him understand the law, justice, and the workings of the city. He trained his body, pushing himself to physical limits he’d never considered before. Val joined the Overseers as soon as he was able, climbing the ranks with a mix of hard work, innate talent, and that fierce belief in justice that had always been a part of him. He specialized in Hextech weaponry, just like the man he admired all those years ago. His titanium white gauntlets becoming his signature, earning him the nickname “The Marble Hand.”

Val had always admired his mom. Growing up, he was a bit of a brat—he can admit that now—but looking back, he feels a little sorry for the way he acted. It wasn’t until he got older that he realized the situation they were in: a single mom running a bakery by herself, keeping everything together with sheer willpower and ungodly early mornings. Val remembers how she would wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning to get the day’s stock of baked goods going, a routine that seemed as natural to her as breathing.

By the time Val was in high school, he couldn’t just watch her do it all alone. He started getting up early too, helping her out before heading off to practice. It wasn’t much, but he wanted to do his part. Those early mornings taught him perseverance, a trait he knows he inherited from her.

Now, as he climbs the ranks in the Overseers and dreams of a better future for both himself and the city, he wishes he could do more for her. Val hopes to see her retire soon, but he wonders if she could really let go of the bakery. It’s been her life’s work, her pride. The words were already spilling out of his mouth before he could think. He had just finished a routine line of questioning, and before Val knew it, his next question had him asking out New Jakarta’s most eligible bachelor and X Academy’s CEO on a date. Val’s heart nearly stopped as he realized what he’d done—he’d never fumbled like that before when asking someone out. He was about to apologize, to take it back, but then Santi said, “Sure.” Just like that. 

They’ve gone on quite a few dates since then, and Val likes to think they’re going steady, exclusive even. But he can’t help noticing the walls Santi has put up. Their relationship isn’t public, Santi avoids any kind of PDA, and sometimes he feels just out of reach, even during late nights when it’s just the two of them in bed. It’s like Santi’s there, but not fully there.

Still, it doesn’t shake Val’s faith in him. He trusts Santi. They both want the same thing, right? For this city to be better, safer. Val tells himself that’s enough, even if getting closer to Santi feels like trying to touch something through glass.

daesung is a fairly new addition to the x academy scientific research team, specializing in biochemistry. though mostly friendly towards others, they might come across as a bit timid socially and their excitement for science might come across as... a lot. daesung has great desire for achieving a scientific breakthrough of their own whatever it takes to achieve it. little do they know that the desires they harbored had been predestined, nor do they realize that their system runs on cables and binaries rather than nerves and blood.

THE VENGEFUL CREATOR – y/m is a familiar yet rather insignificant face in daesung life, perhaps a friendly neighbor or the owner of a bookstore they frequent. but in truth, their bond runs deeper than that. y/m had once been an employee of x academy. one whose had no qualms in be in cahoots and get a little dirty to progress their own career, only to fall from grace when they all needed a black sheep to slaughter. years of resentment and careful planning had resulted in the creation of a very human-like android that would be the harbinger of doom to the x academy, one y/m had given the identity of a random orphan by the name shin daesung.

THE HANDLER – y/m is someone who daesung considers to be someone their closest friend and confidant. what daesung doesn't know, however, is the fact that y/m is aware of daesung's true nature as an android and has been assigned by THE VENGEFUL CREATOR to ensure the mission is going smoothly by keeping a close eye on them and performing regular maintenance on their system. are they doing it for the money or because they also want to see x crumble? do they come to regard daesung as a friend in return, or had the friendliness been a facede simply to do their job well?

THE TARGETS OF RUINATION – these are the people who were heavily involved with the existence and operations of x academy, and some of the gang leaderships who their creator had planted as target in the recess of daesung's subconscious. their mission for now is simply to earn their trust enough to considered part of their circle, so they can move forward with the next stage: causing chaos that would lead to slow, painful ruination from within.

A CORRUPTED MENTOR – daesung would have probably felt honored that y/m had decided to take them under their wing, since y/m has worked for x academy for longer and has remarkable experience to show. but this mentorship wasn't something done out of the goodness of their heart. perhaps y/m simply reveled in driving other's down the darker path of corruption, or they had figured out daesung's android nature and decided they could be of use for their own gain.

BEST FRIEND, UNREMEMBERED – y/m and daesung had been childhood best friend , either because they had formed a bond as fellow orphans or they had simply spent hours everyday playing in the streets of akumu slums. when the fire destroyed the orphanage y/m had assumed daesung was among the many casualties, so perhaps they would be surprised or even excited to cross path with daesung again many years later... not knowing that they're merely an android who was given daesung's identity as a cover.

REAL OR NOT REAL? – daesung had always believed themselves to be human, when really they were an android with pre-programmed objectives and protocols that could be so easily switched. this would take a huge blow to their sense of self and would send them on a huge existencial crisis.

A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD – daesung was supposed to infiltrate the most corrupt circles of x academy and cause an implosion to exact their creator's revenge. but what if someone from x had picked up their true nature and true objective before daesung themselves could even discover them? would they seek out a way to destroy them, or manipulate them one way or another to turn make daesung a weapon that works to their advantage?

SCIENTIST OF PROGRESS – daesung is programmed to be skilled in biomedical sciences, mostly because it was a specialization proven to be in high demand for x academy and would greatly benefit their mission. now, what if daesung had managed to actually stumble into some scientific breakthrough — either by making an unexpected discovery on sighir users or creating a drug that could be useful and/or profitable for x?

// 004 THE STORY //

here is what daesung knowing: they had entered this world without any relatives they could call their own. it was the reason why they had been sent to the orphanage. it might sound sad but really, the place wasn't so bad because they ended up growing with a bunch of kids who they could always play with and there were decent people who took care of the kids. unfortunate, however, that a flamed had swallowed up the place in its entirety. though such tragedies were not uncommon in akumu slums. it was a miracle that daesung had even survived at all, though with such a severe burn all over his body that a skin graft was required. despite the very slow progress, daesung eventually recovered and, against all odds, managed to fight their way out of akumu slums. now they walk the halls of x academy, more than excited to create a scientific breakthrough of their own.

here is what daesung doesn't know: everything that they know about their life, about themself, is a lie. the orphan by the name shin daesung had died in that tragic orphanage fire. they were not even made of flesh and blood, but rather metal and wires. they were SH-1N Ver. 4.5 – an android designed and constructed by a vengeful former X scientist, planted into X academy to deliver a slow ruination and eventual execution to those who had wronged their creator. while daesung exists as their cover story, their programming is also embedded with hyde protocol, a more aggressive and mission-oriented personality that could be triggered by a set of keywords or when high-level danger had been detected.

Egwene was born in the town of Atarashī Kyoto, over five hundred kilometres from New Jakarta. She comes from a big family, and is the youngest of five. She's always had a dream. When she turned sixteen she started racing the Martian desert in her father's aircraft, and working at the local mines to save up enough funds to buy her a one-way ticket to New Jakarta. Upon arrival four years later, she found it incredibly hard to get into street racing. She had to join a gang and become a really good smuggler before anyone took her seriously enough to vouch for her. She's not up on the scoreboard yet, but she hopes to get better so she can leave the life of crime behind.

MENTARI was born in New Jakarta, and he wasn't always a corrupt OVERSEER, he once joined because he thought it was the best way to help his city. Against the wishes of his parents, against all expectations. But the years corrupted him, he started to believe there was no way out, and he soon became part of the conspiracy his sister attempted to unravel. Now he's knee deep in it, with no way out. He's human and he has a huge dislike of Cyborgs. He thinks it's horrifying what people do to their bodies.

He has a much younger sister, and two hard-working parents, but he saw first hand that it didn't matter much in a city where difference between social classes are so strongly present. When he was old enough to go off to college, he surprised everyone around him by joining the OVERSEERS. He hoped to change them from within, to make the city better, fight the inequality, be a voice of reason and stand up for his own people. The job took him down however, and now, more than twenty years after he started, he has become that which he was trying to fight: corruption. He now runs jobs for X ACADEMY and the GOLDEN TEARS, supplying them intell and deleting evidence.

OVERVIEW

She never got the chance to form any memories of her mother and the memories she had of her father were traumatic at best. He was a man addicted to his vices and often at the expense of her. Low on credits, and feeling responsible for the family’s survival, Reyna became entangled with a local street racing crew. She would work on their cars with them and serve as a runner for materials. She found a family in the crew, but it wasn’t enough to save her from her father’s neglect and mistreatment.  Reyna was barely 17 when she stole the family savings and enrolled herself in a boarding school to get away from him. From then on she worked hard to secure a life she could call her own. Her academic achievements put her on X Academy’s radar and through their scholarship program, she attended a university on earth, gaining bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering. After graduation, X Academy invited her back to Mars to put her through an expedited internship program. They later converted her into a full-time employee due to her toxin production and purification work. Much of her studies and professional career was focused on creating and manipulating hazardous materials to reduce Mist-related risks.  During her time with X Academy, she also ‘had the privilege’ and was paid handsomely to join project ‘Nahash,’ a secretive project aiming to create hextech organs. They successfully integrated hextech into her skin and have it correspond with her hextech gloves. She contributed to the project using her bioengineering skills by combining her toxins research with the hextech bio-integration. She had two goals for this project: to create a safer alternative to cyber-augmentations and to develop a more effective security system for those who worked near the Mists. Though she was a talented engineer, not too long after touching down in New Jakarta, she quickly sought comfort from her found family and fell back into street racing. Taking on the codename of “Bakunawa,” based on Philippine mythology’s moon-eating serpent, she graduated from a runner to a racer. No longer focused on her day job, she became good at her night job while using her engineering prowess and X Academy resources to improve her car. Of course, since all things ended, she was eventually terminated from X Academy with the threat of grand larceny charges. Luckily, though, the threat never materialized. In exchange for maintaining an NDA and revoking her access to her hextech, she left the job with a cushy deal and a slap on her wrist. That should have been the end, but Reyna grew attached to her science and wanted it back. Now, trying to keep her spirits up, she’s entering her era of funemployment and trying her best. Hopefully, she can keep out of trouble this time, but who knows if she has it in her to resist her desires?
