Prompt for ya: Vampire!Stiles but make it fluffyish(?)
Stiles gets into a car accident(?) in Roscoe under mysterious circumstances. Ends up in the hospital but heals faster than he should. A few days later while running in the forest finds himself suddenly craving a deer....
Lydia: "Thats wine right? Please tell me thats wine and not what I think it is."
Derek: "Thats not wine. Its bambi."
It's the one thing on repeat in his head, louder than his father's urgent words, clearer than the concern in Derek's eyes and much higher on his totem pole of worries than Jackson's bitching about how he'll have to be the one to give rides, and his fancy-smancy porche isn't built to accommodate the entire pack. His beloved Roscoe is absolutely in ruins, wrapped halfway around a big, stubborn tree and upside-down to boot. There are flashes of blue, red and orange splashing behind his eyelids even when he closes them, and besides Dad's shouting there are a lot of other voices too.
He doesn't remember much of the crash, only that something (or someone) came leaping out from the coverage of the trees and sprinting across the street right in front of his jeep. He remembers slamming his foot down on the brake and the feeling of the car spinning and tipping and colliding with something hard. He remembers throwing his hands up on instinct, tucking his head down and curling his body closer to try and minimise the damage. And then there's just darkness.
'Hey, hey kid.' Dad's voice is shaky, but firm and Stiles latches onto it like a lifeline in the uproar of chaos surrounding him. He still hasn't managed to open his eyes yet, but he can feel his dad's strong hand on his head. 'Stay with me, you hear? You stay with me, Stiles.'
He tries to groan something back, but there's blood in his throat and it tastes funny and wrong on the back of his tongue, thick and congealed as he gargles. Someone is shushing him, telling him to try not to speak, to hold still. Between one second and the next, darkness takes him again.
The first thing he notices when he wakes is the hunger. He's starving, stomach growling like his favourite reoccurring meal wasn't an entire box of mac and cheese and sliced hot dogs. The beeping of the monitor's is loud, too loud- loud enough that as soon as he's able, he's clapping his hands over his ears.
When he opens his eyes, his vision is... funny. Wonky. He'd never had a second thought about his sight being anything less than average, but right now it's like he can see every thread in the white coat his doctor is wearing as the man tries to calm him down. There's another sound, too, other than the annoying heart monitor, a rushing, roaring thump thump thump.
He's able to ignore it for the time being, because pretty soon Dad's there to look him over, the bags under his eyes dark and heavy. His voice is hoarse when he explains what they know so far.
'We think it was a deer,' Dad says, but the way his eyes dart from Stiles to the doctor clues the younger Stilinski into the fact that there's more than meets the eye, something that can't be shared in present company.
Pain twinges up Stiles' spine and he shifts, sitting straighter. He can barely think, his gut feels so empty- he's so hungry. 'Right,' he croaks, and simply nods his head in gratitude when his dad hands him a water cup.
As soon as the doctor leaves them alone, Derek is creeping in through the window, and it startles Dad but not Stiles, and he hides a painful chuckle. Werewolves and doors never got along.
Derek looks just as concerned and tired as the sheriff, and there's dirt on his jeans like he's been running through underbrush. Dad frowns at the mud he tracks onto the floor, but the alpha only has eyes for his mate and rushes to his side. His hands are warm, they're always warm (fucking werewolves), and as black lines of lightning crawl up Derek's wrists Stiles sighs when some of the hunger pain ebbs. He hadn't even noticed the aches in his head and hands until they're gone.
'What were you thinking, Stiles?' are his lover's first words to him, which rude.
He sticks his tongue out and says, 'If you think this was intentional, you're so wrong. Like, not as wrong as when you said not to go into the little rings of mushrooms to see if fairies were real, but loads more wrong than when you said blowjobs weren't an awesome part of our sexy-times regime.'
Stiles'll blame his lack of a filter on the pain-pull. It always leaves him a little woozy. Dad buries his head in his hand and huffs a laugh, excusing himself with a quick, 'I'll be back in a bit, Chris has some intel on what you might've hit.'
Derek is still silent, holding Stiles close, as though he'll magically get better faster that way. Honestly, Stiles is feeling a bit better, if not for the rumbling in his stomach. There's only a few more moments of silence before he purses his lips and lets himself relax into the alpha's arms.
'I'm fine, Der,' he says, but Derek just shakes his head.
'Your heart wasn't beating, Stiles. When we got there, it had stopped. The emt's had to re-start it twice.' Derek holds him a little tighter and Stiles feels guilt flood through him at the worry causing his lover's voice to tremble. 'There was so much blood. They said you- they said you weren't going to make it.'
'I'm sorry-' Stiles immediately responds, but Derek just hushes him softly, waving away his apology before he could really get into it. He shuts his mouth for only a quick second before continuing, though. 'Dad doesn't think it was an animal, huh? Is Roscoe... is she okay?'
He can practically hear the way Derek's eyes roll. 'Not unless you hit an elephant. And... well...'
His voice trails off and Stiles frowns. He wasn't dead, at least, which meant that even if Roscoe never is up and running again, at least she died protecting him. His mother would be proud. Probably.
Derek doesn't let him go until well after he's fallen back asleep.
Chris and Peter have news for the pack a few nights later, and miraculously, Stiles is released from the hospital with an (almost) clean bill of health just in time to make it to the pack meeting (and although he definitely misses his pretty blue girl, riding passenger in Derek Hale's camero is quite fun). Allison and Lydia are busily pouring over documents at the table while the rest of them filter into the living room, where Chris stands, looking worryingly serious.
'We think you hit a vampire,' is what he says, and Stiles can't help the way his brow raises.
'I thought I hit an animal?' he questions from his place halfway sprawled on Derek's lap. His stomach still hurts, and despite the way his wounds have healed up, he can't seem to stop shaking. 'I think I woulda noticed if I had hit a pale, sparkly man.'
Isaac and Peter scoff a laugh, but Derek nudges him gently to focus and Chris doesn't look amused in the slightest. 'Contrary to popular media, vampires aren't sparkly. They can also shift into varying animal forms, usually birds or bats, but occasionally other larger animals, too. Though the tracks leading up to the road were shaped like a mountain lion's, the tracks leading away from the crash are human.'
He nods to Peter. 'We tracked it a few miles, then lost the trail, but it looks as though it was headed deeper into the preserve.'
Stiles is still sitting with a dubious expression on his face, not quite able to comprehend the leap between him possibly hitting a mountain lion and having to deal with a vampire. 'Wait, wait,' he says, but Peter talks over him.
'How's the appetite, Stiles?'
His question catches Stiles off-guard, and apparently Derek and Lydia, too, because both hurry to hiss at the elder Hale to shut up. Chris looks a bit like he's trying to keep his opinion to himself, and as Peter holds up his hands in surrender he smirks Stiles' least favorite smirk- the one that says 'I know something you don't know'.
The rest of the meeting is about the plans to find and capture (or, more realistically, kill) the vampire and where it was last seen. Stiles only makes it through three bites of pizza before he's off to the bathroom, stomach queasy.
In the end, it's agreed that Boyd, Jackson, Isaac and Allison will start on the opposite side of the road, where the vampire had come from, and Chris and the others would follow in the fading tracks towards the preserve to try and sus out where the creature had headed off towards. It was agreed that the pack would keep their phones on, and howl if anything went wrong.
Eager to figure out exactly what had wrecked his mother's baby blue jeep, Stiles insisted on coming with, despite Derek's rumbling protests.
