The Journey to Being Unbeatable
In the last few weeks, a lot has happened. I’ve met new friends, experienced new networking opportunities, and gotten to know myself better. I’ve had success in my coding projects and am proud of what I have done so far. However, it doesn’t stop here, I’m just getting started.
Last Saturday, was the 2nd Annual BMAC Gentleman’s Brunch. It took place in the UCA Student Center and lasted from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. There were plenty of guest speakers who came to talk to us. They were men of success, some where well known managers, entrepreneurs, radio hosts, and more. They talked about how they reached success and how they define it. They were great and did an excellent job. They all took the time to get to know BMAC members, answered questions. For example, asked what we define success as, and informed us about possible opportunities in the community.
There were a lot of things I took away from the brunch. One of my favorites was the section on what does the colors you wear say about you.
The key question is, what is the color of your brand? What do people remember and like about you? When I saw the PowerPoint I initially thought to myself, I want people to see me in the light for who I am. I looked at the screen and I saw three of my favorite colors. Red, Green, and Blue all had great meaning. Honestly, my favorite of the three was blue. Blue means integrity, reliability, and authority. It has always been a goal of mine to continue being a person of integrity and always be reliable when people counts on me. However, I’m not you! I think you should understand your own brand just like me and pick colors that represent your brand. I most certainly will.
Another great thing we discussed was body language. Some of the tips that were given where eye catching. Who would have thought when you are giving your handshake with your palm down you are giving submission to whomever shakes your hand? Also the “Super Man” or power pose was mentioned. Whenever you have your hands on your hips, you are signaling to your body that you’re focused, ready, an overachiever, and aggressive. The Super Man pose makes connections in your brain that signal growth, confidence, motivation, and a can do winner’s attitude. These are just a few of body language messages you can send. It is up to you to pick which ones represent you and what you are trying to achieve.
In life my goal is to dream big and make the sacrifices and the choices to achieve that dream. As a Computer Science student, innovation is one of my passions. I know to reach my dreams, I will need to make great choices. One must understand to meet success, one must be able to accept failing forward to reach their goal. I’ve learned from some of life’s lessons that if you’re willing to give 120%, dedicate time to see yourself successfully doing it, and outwork your competition, you will reach your goal.
