so here’s a little ditty i like to call isopods: reprise.
(except this time i’m not 15 and am way better at writing than i used to be)
Isopods are an insectoid species known for their affinity for building, or otherwise keeping their hands busy.
They are multi-limbed, the average for an isopod is 4-6 arms and 2 legs. Sometimes, very rarely, they can have more than 6 arms.
Isopods are freaky bug with freaky bug-like qualities.They’ve got an insane amount (4) of eyes to go with the limbs, are hard shelled to protect those squishy insect insides, and clawed hands. You know, just in case they need scratch someone or something. They can grow to be quite large, in order to accomodate for the whole arm thing they’ve got going on.
The average lifespan for an Isopod is two hundred human years.
Architecture, engineering, and likewise are very important to Isopod society and are careers that are incredibly sought after for many adult Isopods.
Generally Isopods are content to stick to their building and making their gadgets, so they don’t go out of their way to get into fist fights and start wars with alien species -- Most conquering races are way way out of their league anyway. Of course each Isopod has their own personality and reasonings, but on a whole the species is fairly anti-military.
Isopods value education and the average intelligence for an Isopod might be considered a genius by human standards. However, they do have a harder time relating to and empathizing with members of alien species. It’s not that they’re xenophobic, it’s just hard for them to put themselves in the shoes of foreigners. They are otherwise happy to make the acquaintance of aliens, though!
Their planet has something akin to a tropical wet-dry climate, with very few and far in between cold breaks. Isopods thrive in warm temperatures and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Isopods that are dfab typically grow to be larger than an amab Isopod. They can cap out at 8 or 9 (rare, extreme cases) feet tall. Amab Isopods might grow to be 6 or 7 feet, if they’re lucky.
Isopod reproduction is frankly, very very and undeniable disturbing. Fertilized eggs are carried in a sticky and silk web like sack on the back of an expecting parent. Usually the larger of the parents is the one who carries the eggs, it is a lot harder for threats and outside forces to influence the growth of the eggs this way. It is not uncommon for the smaller to want to carry the children and the larger acting as an outside protector, it is just a lot more worry this way whenever the two are not together. When the eggs are mature enough to survive independent of their parent, the sack scabs off and kind of hardens around the egg so there is another layer of protection, and then it is the waiting game for the eggs to hatch. Egg sacks can have anywhere from 1-4 eggs in it!
