EVERYBODY THROWING MONEY AROUND, AIN’T NOBODY HEARING A SOUND ———
In light of everything, who could blame the wizarding community for banding together? For philanthropically-minded individuals feeling ill at ease with the current administration’s concerns regarding magical creatures, formulating a committee to try put safeguards in place for another traditionally disenfranchised group: squibs? The newly-formed committee, working under the banner of the Squib Protection and Advancement Association, planned a fundraiser for Friday, March 8, 2024. The general manifesto of the gala is to raise funds for supporting Squib rights and implementing new safeguards —- it’s not entirely confirmed yet which one of their primary three considerations for programmes to support will be implemented, but some options include the sponsoring and provision of protective garments and talismans for Squibs in this current fraught climate with Death Eaters running riot, formally sponsoring independent magical study into the ‘Squib gene’ to better identify and understand it, the introduction of unification programmes to better incorporate Squibs into daily wixen life, and assisting with funding the infrastructure required for a Squib-rights focussed Department of the Ministry, amongst others.
Discussion for where the funds ought to go shall occur at the first official Association Meeting next week, following the fundraising gala —- the event itself is to raise both funds and awareness, and despite the several options being considered, it’s a largely supported cause from families across the board. Whether all have noble intentions or some are appeasing their discomfort at the recent creature-based protocols the administration have put in place, some are performatively philanthropic, some have more insidious intentions and some have genuine care for the cause, the fundraiser is widely attended by many families and individuals of note.
Murmurs, mutters, and glances tossed through the shadows. At some point in the night, Amara Shafiq notices these things. She keeps an eye out for those who furrow their brows as someone whispers in their ear — those who have furtive discussions in the corners — and those who, suddenly, can no longer be found.
Rewind. Whilst most of the recognisable names of their society are present at the fundraiser, including Edward Nott, Audrey Weasley, Orpheus Urquhart, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Ludo Bagman, Oliver Wood, Angelina Johnson-Weasley, and many more, including representatives of families such as the Shafiqs, Flints and McGonagalls, there were, in fact, some notable members missing, though it was easy to miss, given that some members of their families were present, generally speaking. Cadmus Jugson, having a minimal societal presence, had not attended and was instead located at one of the Urquhart warehouses with the young crew of Death Eaters he had been charged with overseeing —- and, of course, their captive, Lily Potter.
Suddenly, there was a burst of activity from outside —- a cacophony of spells and jinxes aimed at the warehouse setting off their alarm charms, the sounds of minor explosions from what sounded like devices buried in the ground, and the absolute chaos and carnage that always signalled an attack. From the inside, it sounded chaotic; from the outside, it was surprisingly coordinated.
[ KIDNAPPING TW ] Following information from Leonora Flint, the Order had devised a heist of sorts to rescue Lily from her captors. The largest group of them was that focusing on combat as a form of diversion: notable figures such as Ginny Potter, Ron Weasley and eventually Bill Weasley were part of this group, drawing the attention of the Death Eaters (particularly the back up adults who would eventually arrive from the fundraising gala) and drawing them into the fight, as well as skilled fighters such as Artemis Astor and Arabella McGonagall. Hermione Granger-Weasley was off-site, out of the fray and assisted by Quinn Lacey, utilising communication devices Artemis and Aurora Black had obtained earlier in the week to coordinate attacks, receiving intel from Sage Brown-Patil, who had been put to work as their eagle eye surveying the scene, as well as several members of each team. Victoire Weasley was also on site, yet working from a distance to dismantle the wards the Urquharts had implemented on their warehouses. Bill Weasley was helping with this, as part of the smaller, covert rescue group actually entering the warehouse to retrieve Lily, staying with them for the first stage of their plan and working with his daughter to unravel some of the two pronged wards and more intricate runic combinations from a closer proximity, before peeling off to join the larger group engaging in the main combat. Fred and George Weasley, along with their niece Dominique and a few other members of the Order, were part of the Broom Brigade, raining chaos from above, partially with the intent to distract and fight, and partially to draw off Death Eaters when it came time for all to escape. [ END TW ]
The infiltration group, headed by Teddy Lupin, involved James Potter, Leo Black and Aurora Black. By the time they made their way in, broken in by Victoire and Bill, several droves of back up had arrived for the Death Eaters (including the double agent for the Order who had informed on the location Lily was being kept, Leonora Flint), and Hermione had organised for their own (previously uninformed about the situation, in order to retain secrecy) back up to arrive, including members such as Cecily Skeeter-Atlas and Ophelia Rosier. Aurora Black peeled off next, inside the warehouse, engaging in a duel with Casworan Rowle as the rest of the team made their way through, aiming for Lily. And then —- chaos. The larger combat group was getting closer and closer, by the sounds of it, and the fighting on the inside was getting more intense, and eventually the decision had to be
Go, Teddy had said, and so they had gone, running with Lily as various people covered them —- George sending a Bombarda! at the wall to topple a ton of bricks on a Death Eater trying to grab them, Ara quite literally tearing someone’s wand out of their hand, Artemis blasting backwards one of the Montagues on their tail, Ron skilfully duelling someone much too practiced with non-verbal dark magic to be one of the young Death Eaters originally involved in the plot, until Leo joined the fray, holding off the last of their pursuers, and James and Lily disappeared under the cover of darkness and the invisibility cloak that had assisted their escapade, finally reaching Victoire and the Portkey that had been set up.
Meanwhile, Teddy had been holding his own, but he was only one wix against a squadron, and the odds were not in his favour: at least, not until Sage came in. An ambush, a thief, darting through the shadows, quick as a cat and landing on her feet, she took the Death Eaters by surprise, enough for Teddy to gain back some ground, at least to hold out until a few more Order members managed to fight their way to them. Artemis Astor was there, and Ara McGonagall — Aurora Black had never left, still battling Cas, and then Leo managed to fight his way back, coming in clutch and blasting away a Death Eater getting too close to his flatmate — and they were fighting, fighting, fighting, and then: the chaos of all of them bursting onto the scene, followed by the setting off of some of the explosives one of the strike teams had littered around the area previously, was enough. Barely, but still.
They didn’t win, exactly, but they got out, they got out and none of them were dead, and maybe that was a win in and of itself. Artemis had gritted teeth as she headed for her broom, joining the broom brigade to draw off and outfly some of the Death Eaters — there were blood spatters and the smell of singing in the air, with all of the few leaving the warehouse probably top of the list for medical attention once at the safe house, but they were out, they were out, and the Order would take that as a win. The only problem was that the Death Eaters would too. And they may have been licking their wounds, preoccupied with questions of how and why and, perhaps most dangerously for the Order’s double agents within the DE ranks, who, but they would come out swinging, like a wild thing backed against the wall, and the Order had no doubt of how dangerous that could be.
OOC INFORMATION: Hello everyone! We’re so excited to say that we are now officially reopened! Thank you so much for being patient with us while we took some time to take care of ourselves, and we hope you’re as excited to be back as we are. We are now moving onto the dates of Friday, March 8, 2024 — Friday, March 15, 2024. We’ve compiled the various groups discussed in the chat below, in case you want to check where anyone was at any given point—-if we’ve got your character in the wrong position or you want to change something or add in some details (like an injury etc.), please just shout out! This plot drop is mostly to end the previous timestamp: whilst the adults involved can absolutely react to this in the upcoming in-character days, those stuck at Hogwarts won’t know, at least not until word can be sent (which will likely reach Order-aligned staff members before Lily returns, at the very least). However, we have the Quidditch match happening on Saturday, March 9, 2024 for the students, which should be interesting, given the ravaged state of the Gryffindor team. That post should be coming out later in the week! You are still absolutely welcome to write starters and threads during the previous timestamp, or any previous point in the timeline, but please do not write any starters or threads for beyond March 15, 2024.

The scene devolved quickly into madness; cries and confusion filling the air, and Wren gave a sideways grin to his friends as they spelled their way to their goal. The extended Weasley and Potter families were the most obvious targets, and Wren wouldn’t begrudge his peers who went after them, wands blazing; but his father always said there was more than one way to skin a Kneazle, and there were other ways to wound the Order---particularly, strike at their morale.
And if Wren got to blast that ghastly storefront off the face of the earth while he was at it, all the better.
"Time to put on a show, yeah?” He called to the masked figures standing with him, wand raised. Fire erupted from the tip, coiling in the air as it gathered strength and mass before hurtling through the air to its target----the front windows of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes shattering upon impact, flames licking at the frames and quickly climbing as a new wave of startled screams rang out.

“Well. We both made promises we won’t keep.”
sage looked into the masked-figure’s eyes and could finally see the person she was now facing as an enemy. “frey?” the word almost came out strangled. she had always known both of them stood on different sides of this war, but she hadn’t ever imagined them coming face to face on the battlefield. and to see her with that mask on her face... it felt like the air had been pulled out from her lungs.

The mayhem was everything they’d wanted and more, Gemma’s mask hiding her smirk as chaos reigned around her. Spotting a familiar head of blonde hair, Gemma made her move, wishing Genie could be here for this. “Stupefy,” Natalia Delacour-Bardon dropped like a marionette whose strings had been cut, and Gemma quickly pulled her into an alcove, hands bound behind her back as she murmured, “ Rennervate.” She pulled back, hand flying forward to smack the other girl int he face as she woke, “Wakey wakey, half breed. It’s time to play a game----are you excited?”
THE NIGHT IS ALIVE WITH THE SOUND OF ANTICIPATION ———
One in the morning and the castle is still awake. The party is still going, and nobody has come to stop them. Perhaps on another night, the students would question this, but there was celebration on their minds, a need to find those little freedoms again and hold on tight, and who could be blamed for wanting a night of solace, to feel young again in this time that turns children into soldiers?
But somewhere in the moments of revelry and solace, murmurs were beginning. A growing realisation amongst some members of the M.A. that nobody had seen Lily Potter since breakfast. With so many friends and relatives in the castle, everyone had assumed Lily was simply with a different set of people at any given point, until it built and built until in the middle of the night, with a few of her closest friends and family turning to each other and asking: where is Lily?
Rewind. Three Death Eaters walk into the castle. It starts like the beginning of a bad joke, but it’s the beginning of a scheme in motion. Flora Carrow, Headmistress, lets Ezekiel Gamp, Eden Dolohov & Casworan Rowle in via her Headmistress’ Office fireplace. Gemma Gamp, acting suspiciously, lures Lily Potter away from the more populated corridors, and whilst the vast majority of the school is filing out to the Pitch or climbing up the stands. There’s an ambush during the match — a fight — and then Lily Potter is taken. Maddison Bulstrode cleans up the mess, Gemma Gamp farewells the group taking Lily Potter off-site, and Odilia Travers and Cress Lee, the other two student Death Eater leaders, are in the air, fighting out an excellent Quidditch match.
Now. The McGonagall’s Army leaders call an emergency meeting, with people slowly being pulled in as the second tier members and leaders find them. It’s impromptu and messy, with Rose Granger-Weasley organising shifts of people scoping out the Marauders’ Map for Lily —- or any other suspicious activity —- and various members trying to contend with their rising levels of panic in order to make a plan of action. The Death Eaters, on the other hand, had a meeting ( for second tiers and leaders ) once they noticed the whispers of the presumed members of the MA and their growing panic, with Gemma Gamp proudly and smugly revealing to the trusted lot that Lily Potter had indeed been taken and that it looked like the MA were on the warpath. Those trusted members were then set to interference —- whilst they knew that Lily was off-site, the MA likely didn’t, and so it was the perfect opportunity to get under their skin and cause some havoc. An official DE meeting was set for the following day, where all of them (including general tier) were informed that Lily was taken off-site: a meeting which one Alice Longbottom attended, and after which, the MA were finally made aware that she was nowhere in the castle.
Given the administration’s disabling of the wards which allow technological activity and their intense tightening on all forms of contact, including checking and reading the incoming and outgoing mail, the students have no way as of yet of informing the adults of Lily’s disappearance. For their part, the adults are primarily focused on the Creature Registration Act and the building concerns —- whilst the students are finally aware of it as of the morning post on Sunday 25th of February, they are bereft of many of the constantly evolving details, and it is up to the adults to try decipher what’s happening and figure out strategies, including what to advise their children—and how to get their advice through—during this time. Of course, additionally to this are the adults involved in Lily Potter’s disappearance. It’s the mission of a younger cohort of Death Eaters, ranging from nineteen to mid-twenties, and they are ‘questioning’ her in one of the Urquhart warehouses, all of which have been spelled specifically against traditional Auror tracking methods, given the illegality of their ‘artefact obtaining’ ventures. An older Death Eater, Cadmus Jugson, serves as point/overseer; whilst the Death Eater leaders trust their younger recruits to be able to handle a young girl, having a more experienced player in the game in case the Order catch wind of who they’ve captured is pure strategy.
OOC Information: We are now moving to the dates of Sunday, February 25th — Wednesday, March 6th, 2024. You are still absolutely welcome to write starters and threads during the previous timestamp, or any previous point in the timeline, but please do not write any starters or threads for beyond March 6th, as the upcoming timestamp will involve multiple characters. There is a Quibbler article upcoming which will be dropped some point in the upcoming week, with more in-depth information about the Creature Registration Act and the in-character date for it, but it will likely be set around February 28th, though students will receive it later. This timestamp will last OOC for two weeks and will end on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 (PST) unless the group elects to extend it.
As mentioned in chat, this timestamp/plot drop comes with optional paired threads, and the pairs have been listed below. Please remember that these threads can be set any time during this timestamp (adults, if you’d like to write your thread before the developments coming out in the Quibbler, please set your thread before the 28th; otherwise, feel free to ask us for more information in the server if you have queries before we get the post up in a few days, thank you!), and for non-neutral adults, there may be missions involved during this timestamp which can also be used for the basis of these threads, in addition to the Registration Act.
Going into the first match since the break, nobody knew quite what to expect. The first match of the year had Potters on both teams, and being less than a fortnight after the tragedies of Halloween, it was unsurprising that neither team fared as well as their performances last year would have indicated. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff’s match two weeks later was only somewhat better—-so when students and faculty were pouring into the stands for the third match, nobody knew quite what to expect. Would the few months of distance help, or would the constant barrage of events (from rules, to battles, to injuries and deaths) be too much for the teams to make marked improvement amongst?
• • THE TEAMS • •
Given the rocky start to the tournament, all eyes were on the returning players to the team, hoping for some insight from past performances. However, whispers quickly turned to theorising about any intra-team conflicts. Slytherin, notably, had Scorpius Malfoy playing in the same Chaser trio as one of his ex’s best friends, Odilia Travers, for the first match since his break up with Gemma, and another of his exes, Alice Longbottom, serving as Seeker. The Slytherin team had always had a somewhat precarious set of personalities being asked to work together, and some wondered if Captain Charles Yaxley, given the events of the last few months, might be asking too much for Keeper Albus Potter to bear in the name of camaraderie. A few wondered if Katya Wood-Krum would leave her fellow Beater Anthea de Silva to do all the saving for certain members of the team, but others remained convinced that the team’s commitment to the game would win out over any potential personnel issues.
Ravenclaw dynamics, whilst traditionally less internally tense than the Slytherin team, were also a point of interest for bystanders and curious gamblers. Housemates who had caught glimpses of practices noted that Captain Roxanne Weasley, known for her absolutely ferocious commitment to the sport, as well as a combative personality, and Keeper Cress Lee in particular had been at loggerheads almost constantly recently. Beaters Kian Greyback and Alura Lestrange, on the other hand, have been considered more constant, despite any perceptions due to their families. Whereas Greyback’s reputation off the pitch had never been especially popular, many of the less combative amongst the crowd were relieved for his presence in the match, given his tendency towards good sportsmanship. Lestrange was always exciting to watch, with many of the opinion that she could make it in the pro leagues—-at least if the chaos if this year didn’t play havoc with the chances of all the players hoping for it. Less aggressive than their opposing Chaser trio, Ravenclaw’s were nonetheless the safer bet in the minds of most theorising before the match, with their complementary skills and generally cohesive dynamic, particularly kept together by Leander Finnigan-Thomas.
• • MATCH HIGHLIGHTS • •
...As was to be expected, Slytherin started off strong with aggressive and strategic plays. Ravenclaw started with the Quaffle, passing well between them, but a well-aimed Bludger from Katya Wood-Krum to Leander Finnigan-Thomas led to him dropping the Quaffle and Odilia Travers executing a remarkable Wollongong Shimmy to distract the other Ravenclaw Chasers and be the first to seize the Quaffle. The first change in possession of the game happening within the first twenty seconds, it set the pace for the game to come.
...Coming off the back of a superb hit from Kian Greyback to Scorpius Malfoy, Slytherin launched a dual-pronged attack from its Beaters to change over possession yet again. Whilst Wood-Krum landed the hit on the Ravenclaw Chaser, it was the minefield she and Anthea de Silva created by hitting it back and forth around the player that forced them to drop the Quaffle—or rather, throw it at the Bludger to provide a second of defence in order to fly out of the line of fire. Travers swooped and retrieved it—dented but still intact—and passed it onto Charles Yaxley, scoring the first points of the match.
...After executing a Parkin’s Pincer—surprisingly aggressive for the Ravenclaw Chasers, but an excellent strategy for which their Captain should be proud—Ravenclaw Chaser Finnigan-Thomas rocketed forward with the Quaffle, pulling into a sharp dive to avoid a Bludger to the head from Wood-Krum, and then shot right through the gap between Travers and Malfoy. Closer to the goalposts, Wood-Krum shot another Bludger at him, only for Greyback to swoop in from above and send it spinning back towards his opposing Beater, whilst Finnigan-Thomas managed to score, bringing the score to 30-20, to Ravenclaw.
...After fending off a sharp throw from Travers with a well-timed kick, Ravenclaw Keeper Cress Lee passed the Quaffle off to the unguarded Ravenclaw chaser diving in from above. Malfoy attempted to intercept the Quaffle, but the other two Ravenclaw Chasers raced to their sides, blocking Malfoy and forming a Hawkshead Attacking Formation. They made it halfway down the pitch before scattering from a Slytherin Dopplebeater Defence, where both Beaters hit the same Bludger towards them to send it with excessive force. Travers grabbed the Quaffle, using a Transylvanian Tackle to deter the Ravenclaw Chaser reaching for it too, only to be hit in the shoulder by a well-aimed Bludger from Alura Lestrange. The Ravenclaw Chasers race it down the rest of the way, passing back and forth, finally making a shot—which is saved by Albus Potter.
...And with most eyes in the stadium on the chaos happening near the Slytherin Keeper, many Slytherin supporters roaring at the referee that she’d missed a Blatching by a Ravenclaw Chaser on Yaxley, Roxanne Weasley spotting the Snitch was almost missed. Alice Longbottom noticed her opponent enter a dive and sped across the Pitch, the fastest anyone had moved all game, weaving expertly around Finnigan-Thomas and Lestrange trying to get into her way, but there was no stopping Weasley, and she caught the Snitch, ending the most surprising game yet.
NOTE: A full recap of the play-by-play can be found HERE.
• • MATCH OUTCOME & ANALYSIS • •
After a hard-fought game, Ravenclaw Seeker and Captain Roxanne Weasley managed to claim the Snitch. Slytherin Seeker Alice Longbottom put up a good race, rocketing after her, but the first few crucial seconds’ head start Weasley had from spotting the Snitch first ultimately led to her snagging the Snitch from the air, a mere metre below where Ravenclaw Keeper Cress Lee was hovering. With an uproarious celebration on the pitch, Ravenclaw won the match, 190 to 70! Medical attention was quickly and efficiently provided for Charles Yaxley and Odilia Travers, who were thankfully fixed up with a spell and did not require an overnight stay in the Hospital Wing.
We’ll see you next time at the Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor match in two weeks, where Gryffindor will have to beat Hufflepuff in order to stay in with a chance at the cup.
It’s nearing March, and it’s been quiet -- almost eerily quiet -- on the homefront. Many people insist that it must be because the Death Eaters are planning something -- something big -- whereas other people have begun to let down their guard during the tranquility. As the end of February approaches, the castle is abuzz with excitement about the upcoming Quidditch match (Ravenclaw vs Slytherin), set for February 24th.
On the day of the match, Hogwarts is bustling with activity, nearly everyone showing up to see whether the Eagles or the Snakes will emerge victorious. As everyone’s eyes are on the pitch, it’s mostly unnoticed when everyone’s technological devices completely stop working during the game. Cellular signal in the Scottish highlands has always been lousy, especially lately, and it’s not as though anyone could complain about it without risking detention for bringing their contraband cell phones in the first place.
When Ravenclaw edges out a win (more details on the match in our next post), everyone is invited to celebrate -- even the losing team -- as it’s now a Hogwarts tradition to have an after party in the name of good sportsmanship. (Or simply because people need an excuse to have fun, especially considering how bleak the past few months have been.) Held in the Ravenclaw Common Room, there’s plenty of food and smuggled alcohol to go around, and celebrations are expected to last well into the following morning. If the administration knows about the party, they certainly aren’t doing anything to stop it, strangely enough.
Meanwhile, in the Wizarding World, everyone seems to be talking about the latest announcement from the Ministry of Magic. Unfortunately, due to the monitored communication at Hogwarts, this news hasn’t managed to reach the students yet, leaving civilians to ponder the implications of the recently announced creature registration.
The Ministry of Magic has declared that anyone with creature blood will be required to register with the Ministry of Magic or prove to the officials somehow that they aren’t “tainted” or “halfbreeds” (as the announcement referred to such individuals). Spearheaded by Dolores Umbridge, an elderly woman who is known to be a stickler for rules and order at best, things certainly don’t seem to be boding well for anyone who isn’t pure.

We will give you the specific details on that plot drop a few days from now, including the randomized pairings most of you volunteered for! There’s still time to sign up for the paired threads by the way -- if you’re interested, just react to the announcement about it in the announcements channel of our discord!
