Blackwall took of his helmet and wiped sweat from his eyes. The heat was particularly brutal today, and he was thankful to stop by the field camp so the party could resupply before heading back out. It gave them all a chance to cool down before they began suffering from heat stroke.

As he rubbed a wet cloth on the back of his neck, he looked around to those nearby. “Kona, isn’t it? The Chasind chief? Do you all have titles where you come from, something I should address you as?”

GO TO FUCKING SLEEP. also i really hope your work is understanding because once i had to call off my 3rd job cos i hadn't slept in over 2 1/2 days and the manager was like "you're not coming ?? because you're TIRED ??" LIKE YEAH BITCH ITS A KITCHEN I AINT ABOUT TO DIE 4 RED LOBSTER

yoooo legit tho! like i have a 40 minute commute and there’s no way i’m going to try to drive like this, that’s dangerous for me and everyone else. I think they’ll be understanding so i’m like not too worried i just hate missing work so i’m like 🙃

Kona is nothing if not a devoted man. 

And even when Inara does not quite understand that devotion, she does admire it. So, when she finds him there in his study, slumped across the desk with his head rested on his arm, snoozing away, she can’t help but smile. (Both because he looks rather funny, such a large man dwarfing that pretty desk, and because she finds it endearing, really.) 

It does not take her long to retrieve a blanket from a nearby chair (likely from the last happening) and tuck it expertly about his shoulders and waist without waking him. Then, with the same care, she puts out the candles still burning, and presses a gentle kiss to his temple. 

She feels him shift, but he does not wake. 

     “I love you,” she tells him gently, before leaving him there in the dark to rest.
