The trembling in her hands didn't escape him, then again, hardly anything did when it came to her. Even if... even if.. she was different.. Not the same. It was still her. And perhaps it was both their divine punishment, but he could not let her go. He could feel it in his heart, if he did, she might not ever return. It only made him want to cage her all the more, keep her close until she was suffocating and had no one else but him... He nearly frowned at his own thoughts, a single calculated exhale leaving him as his gaze found her's, a mental shake of his head to stop the spiral, to stop the possessive nature that was so quick to take over.
He didn't laugh at her measly attempt at a joke, instead his expression became reproachful. "You say away, you say a break, but it sounds very... final. Coming from your lips. Why do I feel like you're about to run away and never return?" He reached for her, hand confident, fingers grasping, like a ghost refusing to let go of the past. They were firm when they took hold, but despite himself, he allowed his fingers to remain just a tad loose, allowing her to pull away. No need to spook her further.
"What have I done to cause you to need a break from me? I can fix it."
