Teaching is one of the most difficult tasks in this world. StudySteps provides the IIT JEE toppers handwritten notes. and teaching requires one to be thorough with the concept and be ready to take on all possible questions. It is in these questions that the learning lies for a teacher. The more a teacher teaches a concept, the better he becomes at it. This is because the different questions that students ask help him learn and hone his own concepts. There is a reason why good teachers can explain the most difficult of concepts with the utmost simplicity. Einstein had said: ‘If you can’t explain it to a six. Year-old, you don’t understand it yourself’. StudySteps Provides IIT JEE toppers handwritten notes.
You must now be wondering what teaching has got to do with preparing for JEE. There is something that I like to call the whiteboard magic. It is the magical transformation that you undergo when you start explaining something using the whiteboard. Once you are in a situation where you are responsible for another’s learning, you automatically become more cautious and refined in your thought process. You start to anticipate questions that might be asked and so force your mind to explore a concept in every possible way. You start coming up with different examples to explain a concept and sometimes do a simple experiment just to demonstrate the effect of a scientific principle. Taking on the role of a teacher frees you and helps you develop a more holistic view of a problem or concept. Even so, I have found that taking on the role of a teacher is not always feasible and also not always required, but it is very helpful when you are not sure about a concept. The questions posed by people, who challenge your way of thinking, will give you a great platform to realize your mistakes and get a good grasp of your friends. Once you start explaining, you will not only crystallize your thoughts but also, suddenly, you will spot your flaws. Your friends will help you by asking questions or pointing out where you are going wrong.
Solving by staring. Another part of the whiteboard magic is what I like to call the ‘burning’ of the question by staring at it. For this all you need is a whiteboard, a difficult problem and a few markers. Whenever you are stuck at any problem or concept, it’s time to hit the whiteboard. StudySteps provides IIT JEE toppers handwritten notes. Lay out the problem (the free body diagram, the mathematical equation, the geometry of the problem, etc.) and take a step back and stare at it all. Think about what is known to you and what you need to achieve in order to solve the problem. Think of a flow (what interim steps you might have to take.) Then go to the whiteboard and complete one step. Now again take a step back and see whether what you have done is right or wrong. Evaluate if the approach is leading you ahead or merely making you consider unwanted variables. Stare at the problem, stare hard. Just like a jigsaw puzzle, solve one interim part and then evaluate you overall picture. Keep on doing this till you complete the entire flow and have completed the problem (as per you understanding.) Now if it is correct. Figure out where you went wrong earlier and how you can make sure that it never occurs again. If you are still wrong start staring at the steps you took. Stare at every part of the flow and focus. Try and work the problem backwards and see where you might have gone wrong. If you cannot figure out the problem after spending a considerable amount of time on it, borrow a fresh pair of eyes via a friend and ask him for his thoughts. This will help you get his perspective and figure out the flaw in your approach. If your friends can’t help you, ask your teachers. DO NOT ERASE the question till you figure out what is wrong. This approach helps you develop a keen eye for each of the interim steps involved in solving a problem and also generally results in a ‘wow!’ moment when you solve the problem. (Disclaimer: such a whiteboard exercise might result in a few sleepless nights.)
