He thought it, but he didn’t—couldn’t—say it. The words stuck in his throat, like voicing them might choke him.
He wanted to ask. He couldn’t.
Struck by the urge, Ike lifted a hand as if to cup Soren’s cheek.
There was a flash of something fleeting – a child’s scared red eyes, their trembling thin fingers – but it was gone before Ike could so much as blink. A strange sort of numbness settled over him in its place.
He let his hand fall back to his side.
“You’ll be alright?” he said.
“Yes, Ike,” Soren whispered, his voice quiet and dull. “I’ll be perfectly fine.”

Ike never recovers his memories in the Tower of Guidance and leaves on his journey without Soren. Until he remembers, and returns.
