Tellius Pride Headcanon #6
I headcanon Ranulf as bisexual and/or pansexual. Though, I don’t think laguz would necessarily differentiate between the two.

I’ve been so wrapped up in Heated Rivalry recently that I completely missed intelligent systems revealing that Ike’s fursona is a bear.
And honestly, yeah, that checks out. Loves to eat, loves to sleep, ferocious and protective af, sometimes slow but with a great big heart? Ike is definitely so bear-coded. Plus it aligns perfectly with my headcanon that, post-RD, Ike gains a bit of weight and becomes a proper bear.
As in, the gay type of bear.
Therefore, I am declaring my headcanon officially canon. Big, buff, wrestler body Ike is canon.
All the more for Soren and Ranulf to enjoy, for sure.
Congratulations, Ike!
Some random ikesorenranulf thoughts I’ve had this week:
Ike dying and reincarnating as a wolf laguz, with all his memories intact (a gift from Yune). As soon as he reaches adulthood, he goes on a quest to find his husbands. When he finds them and tells them who he is, Ranulf nearly knocks Ike to the ground with joy, laughing and crying at the same time. But Soren refuses to believe it at first, thinking it too good to be true, and accuses Ike of playing a cruel trick on them. It takes quite a bit of time to finally convince Soren, and by the end all three of them are bawling.
Ike chopping wood out in their front lawn under the hot Hatari sun. He would shuck his shirt off at some point and all the ladies in town keep making excuses to walk past their house so that they can gawk at Ike’s gorgeous chest. Ranulf and Soren sit on the front porch with iced tea and argue over who gets to reapply the sun protectant ointment next.
Modern Ike taking Ranulf and Soren camping. They would have the time of their lives, just hanging out in the woods, cooking their meals over a campfire, and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. As a bird enthusiast, Ike knows all the birds by their call. Ranulf takes them fishing and despite seemingly putting in the least amount of effort, he winds up with the largest, most impressive catch. Soren has thoroughly researched all the best sightseeing locations in the area, and is in charge of their midday activities. It becomes a regular occurrence for them.
Ike, Soren, and Ranulf as uncle figures to Boyd and Mist’s gaggle of children. Ranulf is the fun uncle, spoiling them with gifts and encouraging their mischievous side. Soren is the one they listen to the most and who will answer all of their strange questions. And Ike is the one who gently rough-houses with them, picking them up and tossing them into pillows, throwing them over his shoulder, etc. All three of them are very loved. And all of them enjoy it, no matter how much Soren likes to complain about being stuck with babysitting duty.
Aaaand, that’s it for now. I hope someone gets a kick out of these random thoughts.

It is done. I have finally finished the monstrosity that is my 35k word Ike/Soren/Ranulf fic for the @telliusbigbang
Please go give it a read
My goal to convert at least one person to my ot3. Please let me know if I’ve succeeded because that would make me the happiest person in the world
It’s June!! In honor of pride month, I decided to cook up some headcanons about the Tellius characters attending a pride event in a nonspecific modern au!
I’m gonna start out with my ot3 Ike/Soren/Ranulf, but I will get around to my other queer ships, too.
If the sun is out, Ike’s guns are out. And by that, I mean his barrel biceps. He’s 100% rocking a sleeveless shirt. Between that and his bear vibes, he is hit on by many men, which still makes him as uncomfortable as being hit on by women, but at pride his boyfriends have no reason to hold back claiming Ike as their property. Not including the unwanted attention, Ike enjoys himself.
Ranulf is the one who drags Ike and Soren along with him. He goes all out, decking himself with a variety of rainbow and bi-flag themed accessories. Unsurprisingly, he has the most fun out of their trio. Some people flirt with him, and while Ranulf flirts back, he makes it clear that it’s all for fun and that he is extremely spoken for.
Soren follows along quite begrudgingly. He comes prepared for the weather: bringing sun hats and sunscreen for all three of them. Most of his time is spent shooing potential suitors away from Ike. Despite fussing like a mother hen the whole time, he enjoys the warm weather, and secretly revels in showing off his possessive side. If asked directly, however, he will do nothing but complain about his experience.
In their usual day to day life, the trio keep their relationship fairly discreet. Close friends and family know, but they keep things vague with co-workers and strangers. This is primarily due to Ike and Soren’s private nature. Ranulf would be more open about it, if it didn’t make his partners uncomfortable. At pride, however, Ranulf is free to tell anybody and everybody about his wonderful boyfriend Ike and “boyfriend-in-law” Soren. And he takes full advantage of that. Ranulf even tries to get them to wear matching shirts, but Soren draws the line at that.
Ranulf wants to stay all day, and tries to attend as many events as possible. However, Ike and Soren’s social batteries are much more easily depleted, so they end up going home and “continuing the party” there. Aka: they have a little picnic in their backyard with music and fruity drinks.

More miscellaneous Ike/Soren/Ranulf thoughts bc the thoughts keep comin’ and they don’t stop comin’:
Ranulf starts calling making out “having a smooch sesh”. It happened once as a joke, with Ranulf asking Ike if he “wanted to have a little smooch sesh before dinner”, and Soren was so hilariously affronted (“Do you have to call it that?”) that Ranulf just kept doing it. In fact, Ranulf likes to make up a variety of slang for making out (and for other bedroom activities) and he judges their effectiveness by how poorly Soren reacts to them.
Ike’s sense of humor can basically be summed up as “dad jokes.” The dumber and more obvious the punchline, the more it tickles his funny bone. Puns are especially a hit for him. With this knowledge, Ranulf puts a lot of effort into making Ike laugh. No one else has been able to make him laugh as hard. That being said, Ike isn’t immune to Soren’s dry, deadpan humor. It’s far less likely to get a deep-belly laugh out of him, but it can get him to crack a smile or even chuckle, which is probably for the best, because even seeing that (and knowing that he’s responsible) is enough to get Soren’s heart racing.
Due to the circumstances of his horrific upbringing, Soren is both touch-starved and touch-averse, at least in the beginning of the relationship. While he constantly craves physical affection from Ike, he also fears being seen as “too needy”. Soren also avoids initiating contact. It takes a while for him to overcome the mental barriers that keep him from fully appreciating Ike’s embraces, rather than instinctively shying away from them. Ranulf, on the other hand, is very touchy-feely. After seeing the way Ranulf practically hangs off of Ike’s arm most of the time, Soren stops feeling so self-conscious about his own wants and desires. Ike, who is not ordinarily someone who craves physical affection, is surprised by how much he misses it when he’s separated from his lovers for too long.
Ike likes it when his lovers are a little bit mean, especially when they’re being a little bit mean for a good cause. For example, he loves watching Soren haggle with vendors for better prices, or the way he gives his opinion without softening it, telling Ike exactly how he feels. And while Ranulf is generally amicable and cheerful, he’s not always happy-go-lucky. When he’s upset, Ranulf is absolutely able to show his metaphorical claws. Most of the time, this takes the form of extreme passive aggression, the level of which would make Southern women proud. Now, Ike is no stranger to being a little bit mean for a good cause, especially when it comes to correcting an injustice, but sometimes, he just likes to take a step back and watch Soren and Ranulf handle things. They are very, very good at it, and Ike loves how confidently competent they are.
Miscellaneous Ike/Soren/Ranulf thoughts that have been on my mind recently:
Road trip AU. Ike takes Soren and Ranulf on a road trip. Soren is the backseat driver, ensuring that they don’t get lost. He 100% has planned everything ahead of time, and has physical maps in addition to his phone’s GPS. Yet Ranulf is constantly suggesting detours, to Soren’s frustration. Ike drives most of the time, finding it relaxing. Ranulf is also in charge of the music. They stay in various cheap motels and occasionally squeeze together on one bed. Soren complains the first time that they will break the bed, but between Ike’s plush chest proving to be a self-heating pillow and Ranulf draping his limbs over Soren like a weighted blanket that also purrs, Soren ends up having one of the best nights of sleep of his night.
Another modern AU where Ike, Soren, and Ranulf get trapped inside a vacation home together because there is a big tropical storm and it floods all the roads. Maybe they started vacationing with friends and family, but decided to leave later in the evening, and end up stranded for another couple of days. They lose power and internet access, which forces them to light candles and such. Maybe it happens pre-relationship and it forces them to admit to the fact that Soren and Ranulf both have feelings for Ike. Maybe during a game of truth and dare. Maybe the games they play get a little spicy, and by the time the roads are open again, all three of them have learned a whole lot about themselves and each other.
Food is a love language they all share. Ike will sneak food onto Soren’s plate when no one is looking: especially pastries, which Soren loves but rarely indulges in. Soren will research local restaurants to find new and interesting dishes that Ike might like. Ranulf loves to go out and hunt or catch fish and then cook them up with all of Ike’s favorite spices and side dishes. Further into their relationship, Ranulf will drag Soren to stands selling sweets, and order enough for them to share. And even further into their relationship, Soren will start bringing new recipes to Ranulf and ask him for help so that they can work together to make a meal for Ike.
one of the hardest things about getting older is how your ability to do things gradually diminishes. this is going to be especially hard on Ike, who puts so much emphasis on being strong enough to protect his loved ones. how do you think our wandering trio would cope with the physical effects of Ike’s aging as he gradually goes from being physically the strongest of the three to possibly the weakest? I imagine Soren taking it especially hard, and Ike trying to be chill about it for his sake but really struggling to deal with the reality that he’s the one who needs protecting, now. meanwhile Ranulf would try really hard to keep everyone’s spirits up, but eventually have kind of a breakdown about it, prompting a really difficult conversation between the three of them.
guess I just answered my own ask lol. oops. do you have any thoughts? things you disagree on? that kind of thing?
Ooof, way to hit me right where it hurts.
I definitely agree with you, though. Mule-headed Ike would have trouble adjusting to the fact that he’s no longer able to accomplish physical tasks as easily as he could when he was younger. Thankfully, I imagine it might take a while for him to start “feeling his age”, since he stays so active.
But even if he stays in shape with regular exercise, it will only prolong the inevitable. Eventually, he will reach a stage in his life where he can no longer lift as much as he used to, or maybe he has achey joints, or a bad knee, or some other health issue that makes navigating the world just a little harder. And because he’s Ike, he will refuse to let that hold him back.
He definitely is the type of man to throw out his back because he keeps pushing himself past his limits, and get Quite An Earful from both of his doting househusbands.
That said, I like to think that our trio has found their forever home by then, in a cottage just outside a small town in Hatari, so at least Ike doesn’t have to worry about protecting his husbands from bandits, natural disasters, wild animals, or other such travel-related hazards. And by that point, Soren and Ranulf have honed their own respective skills to the extent that they can defend themselves. So even if it’s hard for Ike at first, I also feel like he would be the first to accept and move on from those feelings.
His attitude would basically boil down to: “Well, there’s nothing to be done, so there’s no use worrying about it.
Soren would have a much more difficult time, because the physical signs of Ike’s aging (his hair turning gray, the wrinkles, the loss of muscle mass, etc) would be a visual, omnipresent reminder of Ike’s mortality. For Ike’s sake, I think he would try to put on a brave face, but inside he is Not Coping Well.
Ranulf would definitely try to make jokes, esp concerning the fact that Ike looks old enough to be their grandfather, while they’re still fairly fresh-faced. And he’d tease Ike about how his blue-silver hair is so handsome.
Only, internally he is terrified by how quickly Ike seems to be aging.
When they finally all sit down and talk, it hurts. And it takes a long, long time, the three of them huddled up together and discussing their thoughts and feelings well past midnight.
And it doesn’t drastically alter anything going forward. Their individual fears are still there.
But Soren and Ranulf both get to sob into Ike’s (no longer buff) chest, and it’s cathartic. It helps dull the sharp edge of their pain. And Ike gets to hold them both and marvel at the fact that Soren and Ranulf care so deeply for him, and be proud of how far they’ve come in their own relationship.
Even when he’s gone, they will have one another. Ike takes great comfort in that.
