BELLEVILLE -- State Rep. Tom Holbrook, D-Belleville, expressed no worries over a published report that Jay Hoffman, a fellow Democrat and ex-state representative from Collinsville, is pondering a run for Holbrook's 113th House District seat in next year's Democratic primary.
"I'm running and I'll run my own campaign," Holbrook said Tuesday. "I can't speak to his."
On Tuesday the Capitol Fax, a respected newsletter devoted to Illinois politics, published a story stating that Hoffman is pondering whether to oppose Holbrook in the primary election in the upcoming spring.
Hoffman could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Hoffman, to win Holbrook's seat, would eventually have to move into Holbrook's district, which is "80-85 percent" the same as it was before House redistricting earlier this year, Holbrook said.
Holbrook, who has served nearly 18 years in the Illinois House, said he will run on his record in 2012.
"I've done a good job in my district, and my people know that," he said.
To run in the upcoming primary, Hoffman will need to file required paperwork by the end of November, Holbrook said.
"I think you'll know long before then," he said.
Although Hoffman was defeated for re-election in November 2010 by Republican Dwight Kay, his re-election campaign's coffers contained $108,324 as of June 30, state election records show.
Holbrook's campaign war chest contains $200,016, state election records show.
