so the new tracks from bts opinion?

these are raw thoughts from my first listen, i will likely assess them better when i write later on

yet to come - from a musical standpoint, this track is not too impressive. i actually found it rather tame, like it kept nearing the point of being great, but never crossing that line. it’s nice and sweet, but it doesnt really go much beyond that - it’s sufficient, but nothing transcendent. however, i think this track demands to be judged for its emotional meaning, and can actually be rendered agnostic from the music itself. which is why i think it’s a quintessential song for fans - those who have a connection to the group can see the beauty in this song, but for everyone else it’s a song that just comes and goes

run bts - it’s not the peak of excitement but it’s definitely nice. but i think this song was their attempt to replicate a cypher but i dont think that worked out in their favour. production is great but we knew ;) also i said i didnt know how well dem jointz x *** was gonna work out and they proved me right lmao i dont think their voices suit this kind of production bcs they’re letting the instrumentals take over in the majority of the song and were engulfed by the production

for youth - looooved the beginning with the fans chanting, that was really a nice touch! song is fine - i feel like it’s similar to yet to come, where if ur a fan u feel the connection but the music alone is nothing groundbreaking, and feels slightly derivative. absolutely amazing choice for album closer tho

born singer - ik it’s not strictly a new song lol but anw shes just so great <3 that’s the style that fits the best imo all the other tracks are so lukewarm while she has the right edge. and such a great choice for the album opener

overall the album is okay, albeit a bit puzzling bcs it’s not really clear to me what they were trying to achieve with it. it doesn’t feel like an impactful and adequate goodbye, nor does it feel like a fresh exciting transition to new things for them. also im not the biggest fan of many of the older songs they chose for the album - it didnt feel like a collection of their greatest songs, but a compilation of a few good songs, a ton of mid ones and some of the worst. like the way disc 1 degenerates in quality is just…. also (pt 2) im not exactly sure whether releasing a greatest hits album was a wise choice at this point in their careers
