you're so right. it's so clear that neither yg nor teddy understand the current market at all. there's still oversaturation in kpop rn but the difference now vs 10 years ago is that our attention spans are shit so people need constant reminders that you exist. the only time people talk about baemon or meovv is when they release something and it sucks and everyone talks about how their talent is wasted and their companies are useless. that's not exactly going to keep people's attention

it only worked for bp bcs whistle immediately became a smash. which is hilarious bcs iirc at the time yg wanted boombayah to be the smash and was really confused that whistle was the hit instead. anyway, there was immediate mass interest in all 4 bp members when they debuted and that interest grew bcs pwf, aiiyl and d4 were also smashes. their music was great so people wanted to see more of them and were frustrated when they didn't and constantly pestered yg and teddy about it

bm and meovv don't have any smashes so using the same strategy does not and will never work bcs nobody is interested in seeing more of them bcs nobody cares about what they've seen from them so far

absolutely yes to all that + i also think the approach worked for bp cause at the time the industry was oversaturated and groups kept having cbs back to back and the audience was getting a bit tired of that, so being barely active worked at the time. nowadays the way audiences behave and pay attention is completely different! an artist disappearing and/or doing very little doesn’t work like it did in 2016, cause back then u wanted people to miss u but now that inactivity just makes people forget about u (an that is true in both kpop and western music industry btw). it’s so clear those companies haven’t done market research in years
