We all know the mainstream charts don’t represent the amazing quality and diversity of new music being released every day. We all know that record labels, commercial radio stations and music industry institutions are in cahoots to manufacture hits.

So we decided to create our own Top 40 list highlighting new music from strictly underground / independent artists – the illboard Top 40 – a monthly list of our favorite 40 independently released tracks, curated by DJ Petra and the Hip-Hop & Her Family team. Shouts to Ka for the name “illboard.”

illboard is a monthly music chart featuring the best underground records, formed in response to the growing mainstream machine that shuts out a lot of amazing music.

we search out skilled and hard working artists around the world making music independently, and compile a "Top 40 of the Underground" released every month on the 1st.
