I honestly can’t decide whether I prefer ‘Spock declined the VSA’s offer and joined Starfleet because he wanted to learn more about his mother’s culture and knew he’d only really get to by immersing himself in it, and that if he joined the VSA he’d do all his study among only Vulcans and then most likely join a ship staffed entirely by Vulcans and also if he’s being completely honest with himself he hoped that humans would be more accepting of his Vulcan half than Vulcans were of of his human half’ or ‘Spock declined the VSA’s offer and joined Starfleet because the VSA assholes elders insulted his mother and he flipped’
