What's this? A piece with a background? On my page? Crazy
Art of Arius, having a stroll on the beach. Man loves the sea and sand, and I love dramatic lighting and wind. What could be more perfect?

*Sighs* Once again I make a decent illustration background, but don’t have the motivation to finish it. I might as well just post it without the characters in it.
I like how it turned out, but not how the characters looked with it, but there’s also the fact that I had to redo and fix a lot of things because the save file almost corrupted itself when I finished the background.
For today's post, a background I created for a game project some years ago.
To create the coffee shop background for this casual game, I worked closely with the art director to bring their vision to life. The process began with brainstorming and sketching rough ideas, focusing on creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere. I explored the layout of the scene, ensuring that the coffee shop, outdoor seating, and greenery conveyed the warmth and charm we were aiming for.
After receiving feedback, I refined the sketch, paying close attention to proportions, perspective, and details like table settings and potted plants. Once the composition was finalized, I moved on to clean line art, making sure all elements were clearly defined and ready for painting.
With the foundation set, I transitioned to Photoshop to block in the base colors. I worked with the game’s color palette, keeping the layers organized for easy adjustments as I progressed. To add depth and dimension, I focused on lighting and shadows—deciding on a light source, adding a warm glow to the shop’s windows, and creating subtle shadows under the tables.
Then came the fun part: adding textures and intricate details. Brickwork, gleaming coffee cups, and small floral accents brought the scene to life, ensuring it felt vibrant and engaging. I made sure everything aligned with the casual game’s aesthetic.
Finally, I polished the piece by balancing colors, adding atmospheric effects, and making final adjustments. The collaboration throughout the process helped ensure the background seamlessly fit into the game world and met the creative vision set by the art director.
