Fjord (2019)
If you know this character, you’re a NERD. But like the coolest nerd ever! Critical Role is a show I found at a time I was looking for a table top gaming group. I drew a lot of the characters from Critical Role’s Campaign 2 during Inktober 2019 and my favorite Inktober piece happened to be FjordI Up until this year, I rode the struggle bus for drawing male faces. The Musician Series helped that a lot since I inadvertently drew a lot of pretty K-pop boys.
In contrast to the Allura digital coloring, I tried a more painterly technique. It didn’t work so well. I think I lost a lot of the contrast I intended to have with the layers and layers of varying opacity and blending brushes. But, I learned a lot about the tools and techniques that did work well and that’s what counts. It was a good learning experience too in that this piece reminded that not everything HAS to or IS GOING to be perfect and polished. And that’s ok. The journey of creating is becoming a lot more interesting to me than the destination.
