No such thing as missing an ask game in my opinion!
12. how long have they been around? do you know their birthday? is their birthday the day you made them or another day? what do they think of celebrating birthdays?
Boring answer: neither Pendíkhia’s nor Kurrat’s cultures celebrate birthdays. The closest thing Pendíkhia’s people have is, when a baby survives their first winter, they get taken to the Sacred Cave to get their child-name. The kind of calendar that leads to birthdays isn’t something they have.
(What I think is) the more interesting answer:
In December 2023 we were joking around about Murderbot Diaries AUs and what was the Oldest AU and that became Prehistoric AU which became a joke about Ice Age AU and then I got very invested in a story where Mjrderbot gets isekaied to Paleolithic Earth due to a wormhole mishap. And so Murderbot Ice Age AU was born. The idea was “PresAux are all Ice Age humans and Gurathin is the Neandeethal who lives with them for some reason. And now regular Murderbot is here.” And it’s still something I’m fond of. But then in April 2024 I was turning over in my head Ice Age AU!PresAux’s backstory about Neanderthal!Gurathin getting kicked out of his clan and found by Ice Age!PresAux, taken in by Mensah and defended by Pin-Lee… and over the next few months I realized I was really invested in THAT story too. And that the story I was getting invested in didn’t super work as a Murderbot Diaries AU where everyone was the same characters. And so sometime around October 2024 Ice Age AU Prequel officially split off and became Ice Age Story. And Pin-Lee became Pendíkhia in an act of absolutely flagrant self-plagiarism, because “Pendikhia” was the Hittite name I gave to Pin-Lee in a different AU (Greek Mythology AU, the next oldest Murderbot Diaries AU haha). And Pendíkhia was now free to become a character separate from the AU version of the Murderbot character, and so was Kurrat, and so was everyone else who drifted rather further from their inspiration counterparts now that they didn’t need pre-existing characterization to tie them down.
And that is how Pendíkhia and Kurrat happened 😆 The power of making AU versions more and more divorced from any canon basis until you realize, I can tell the story I really want to tell if these are just brand new people.
32. do they have any habits that aren't particularly self-destructive, just maybe odd?
Kurrat will definitely fidget by knapping a piece of stone smaller and smaller until it’s useless debris.
Tanúngia likes to observe and count animals, particularly birds.
Pendíkhia will mindlessly chew on bones from food until they’re a gross fragmented mess.
