An EXCITING day at @trinityschool. Last day before our traditional Christmas program at Trinity Presbyterian Church and the start of Winter holidays tomorrow! Teachers were snazzed up in sweaters, coats, sweatshirts, and even costumes. First field trip I’ve ever planned was a success! My photography class went to Hollywood (TCL Chinese Theatre, Dolby Theatre, and Hollywood and Highland), Downtown LA (the Broad, Walt Disney Concert Music Hall), USC and the Rose Garden at Exposition Park, and the Santa Monica Pier. . The trip was soooo good! Except for the ride home, we hardly hit any traffic, and none of the places we visited were overcrowded. The bus driver let us eat on the bus, so we saved time there. We got to each place on time. Dinner came out fast. The kids were polite, respectful, and very responsible...even if they were a bit hyper and excited. . Our counselor did a great job giving us a tour of her alma mater. One student has now decided he wants to go to USC. . Another girl yelled in the bus, “WHY DOES EVERYTHING IN L.A. HAVE TO BE SO CUTE??? I HAVE TO MOVE HERE!!!” (Our counselor had just pointed out the Los Angeles library. 😆) . Also, apparently the only reference our students have to Los Angeles is the video game GTA. “Oh, that’s the car wash from GTA!” “Hey, is that the underpass from GTA?” If we had a dime for every time we heard “GTA”... 😆 . Believe it or not, this is my homework. And I love it.
A girl (who is not one of my students) asked me yesterday, “Why don’t you ever come to PE anymore? It used to motivate me to run more when you were there.” I told her that half of it was because I had to sub a lot during my prep period, and half of it was because I got lazy. . So today, I went to PE and ran the #20minutejogwalk with the kids. I got 6 laps (1.5 miles), which is really good for me, considering I haven’t run in months. . But the best part is how encouraging the kids and PE teachers are. They cheered me on as we ran, challenged me to race, clapped for me at the end, and congratulated me on my 6 laps during later periods. And I got to do the same for them. . First day of school with students looked a little different this year! I have the privilege of serving as math coach for my school this year. Here’s hoping I can live up to the great examples of the math coaches who have helped me as a teacher. ❤️ It was really weird not having students to teach…but it was nice to see and interact with more students and teachers than I usually get to. We are also trying something new this year with schoolwide activities to start the year, and we have received positive responses and support from the staff. All the time, money, and effort was worth it. Went and spent time with my class today. Wednesday is small groups day so I introduced them to @superfightgame ! We had a good time discussing who’s character would win. Know whose didn’t, not one single round? Mine! 12-14 rounds of characters with various attributes and all of ‘em were stinkers!
