Stranger Things establishes that the healthiest couples don't need to say "I love you" to each other because their love is evident through their actions.

However, I like the idea that Mike and Will say "I love you" to each other ALL THE TIME anyway. For one thing, Mike not being able to say it to El resulted in an argument and was probably a source of deep shame for him. So once he's able to say it to Will (effortlessly), he says it constantly just because he can. He says it so often, Will starts answering with "I know" and rolling his eyes. But he's not actually annoyed. He loves it. And Mike loves saying it.
