what I wanted: the title alone sold me on this one
what I got: much more depth than I expected!
what I thought: This was darker and more serious than expected but very enjoyable! The ending was a bit convoluted - I would have enjoyed a little more explanation - but other than that I really liked this and rate is 4 out of 5 dragons.

Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher
what I wanted: a good fantasy read
what I got: a dark and intriguing story
what I thought: I really enjoyed this magical, dark quest story with both dark and humorous elements. The writing style also paints a very vivid picture, which is exactly what I want in a moody fantasy story. What I would have liked a little more of is character interaction, although I am aware that that would have changed the mood of the book. It felt fitting the way it was, but at the same time I would have enjoyed it if there was more, if that makes sense. I rate this 3.75 out of 5 needles for sewing a nettle cloak.

Unwell Women by Elinor Cleghorn
what I wanted: a book about the history of medical science and women
what I got: pretty much that
what I thought: This book covers many shocking aspects of medical history when it comes to treating (or not treating) women. However, I was hoping for the book to focus more on more recent history than it did - I'm sure that very interesting things have been going on these days as well. Still, I don't regret having gained the historical knowledge I did from this book and I rate it 3 out of 5 things that provide some small comfort when I feel unwell.

what I thought: I liked the insights into problems with industrialization and the related class struggle that this book highlights, but for some reason it did not get me as emotionally invested in its characters as other books I've read by Gaskell. I rate this 3 out of 5 sewing tools.
