@bloodworshipped
Tiny fingers curled around the young woman’s hand, the witch’s milky green eyes concealed behind a thin barrier of black lace, but in the direction of the city’s Matriarch. The small girl seemed confused, meekly tucked behind the thick, flowing layers of the older witch’s chiffon skirts, her wide eyes like the sea’s deepest navy. They were foreigners in enemy territory. Aeva had been told horror stories of the Queen, but could she be worse than where they came from? It hadn’t been difficult for city guards to spot the outsiders and bring them to their leader, seated high on a glossy throne of obsidian. The witch was in no condition to even attempt to hide with the girl, as her eyes were completely useless now. The last sight she’d seen was the little girl below her window, and now she’d used up what little magic she had getting them here.
If the Queen was as MERCILESS as she had been told, they would surely die, and it would be for nothing.
“Your Grace,” She bowed, feeling the tiny hand tighten around her own, “We... only wish to seek refuge until we can find somewhere else to reside.”
She paused, swallowing a knot in her throat. If death was her fate here, she wouldn’t even see the face of the infamously beautiful Queen. The sound of scribbling on parchment was the only other sound in the hall other than her voice.
“Even if I must go back or die here for trespassing, I beg you to let her stay.”
