Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a gentleman’s leather wallet and offered it out. “Speaking of, Mister O’Beron won’t be coming back for his coat. But he did leave me your commission after giving me a charming cut.”

The air about her seemed to shift, and there was unease as she shifted her weight, arms folding as her gaze looked downward.

“I... haven’t seen Creed in many months, almost a year. He hasn’t called or written--” Looking up once more, her face was softer than she would have liked. Creed wasn’t the definition of affectionate, but he always kept in touch to keep her from worrying. “It’s unlike him.”
