Things to do if you're a brokie like me and you want to cosplay

For clothes, if the character dress casually you can thrift them If the character doesn't dress casually you can still thrift a few accessories or buy the costume through Vinted for example, there are pretty cheap stuff on that app, I found a maid dress for 13 bucks there. Just watch out for the shipping costs as they tend to get higher than you thought it'd be when the seller isn't from your country. You can also sew the outfit yourself. If you can't afford fabric, you can up-cycle clothes you don't use or buy new ones (to customise or to use their fabric) as some clothes sometimes are cheaper than the actual fabric. I'm using a fur blanket to make a cat ushanka. Get creative. Everything around you can be used for a cosplay. I made a devil tail with a random tube I found on the floor and a heart cut from a white sweater. I also made a battle axe from cardboard and an old broom stick. There are actually a lot of tutorials on youtube abt how to make anything from cardboard or an old pillow case. Have you seen those people on Pinterest making wigs or ENTIRE fursuit with paper? I've never tried that before but this could be a great alternative! Who knows? Maybe you'll discover yourself a real passion for huge paper crafts. Ask for those on your birthday. Cuz I know everytime someone asks you what you want, you forget and just say "I don't know". Birthday gifts are the occasion to ask for something you can't afford. Just don't choose something too expensive. For my birthday, I asked my parents to get me a ruffled shirt. Improvise. I've been wanting to make feetpaws recently, but every tutorial I see use some sort of foam that's expensive where I live and I can't afford getting it shipped either so I'll probably use polystyrene, old slippers and what remains of my fur blanket. Just know that cosplaying is generally an expensive activity. Doing my best to not spend much I managed to cosplay as one of my OC Baal-Tzel for around 36€ (that's the price of the ruffled shirt my parents bought me + the dino mask), and my latest cosplay is still getting shipped, it cost me 64€ (maid dress + thigh highs + petticoat + cat ears + paws). Dura lex sed lex 😔💔 That's all the advice I have from being a wise, full time broke ass. I probably didn't teach you anything but at least I realised I actually knew a lot of ways to cosplay even if I currently own 10 cents.
