As a child, whenever Eliott was sad because of a nightmare, a silly fight with his kindergarten friend or being afraid of monsters in his closet, all he needed to feel better was to lie down with his head on his mom's chest and listening to her heartbeat. Now a lot of things have changed since Eliott's childhood. The one thing that didn't change is the calming effect that listening to a loved one's heartbeat has on Eliott. Whenever Eliott's day hasn't been great, Lucas is there and he'll never complain when Eliott wants to lie down on his chest. Obviously, loving your mom is different than loving your boyfriend, but when you look at the essentials it's not so different after all. In the end it all comes down to having someone who loves you because you're you and who's there for you and won't leave you but helps you through the rough times. (2/3)
Listening to the steady rhythm of Lucas' heartbeat that he knows so well by now reminds him of all of the above. And sometimes, just sometimes, when he needs another reminder that this is real, that Lucas is really with him, he compliments Lucas and tells him how much he loves him, which always results in Lucas' heart beating just a tad bit faster, just enough for Eliott to notice. And then at the latest, he believes that things will be ok again, because he's not alone anymore (3/3)
