KNOWN MEMBER OF HOUSE BELAERYS : ( taken directly from the wiki ) jaenara belaerys was a dragonrider of valyria , jaenara flew her dragon, terrax , farther south in sothoryos than anyone had gone before . she returned to the valyrian freehold after three years , having found only endless jungle , deserts , and mountains . jaenara declared that sothoryos was as large as essos and "a land without end." - HEADCANON MEMBER OF HOUSE BELARYS : aurion belaerys - according to histories of qohor , he raised forces from qohorik colonists &. declared himself the first emperor of valyria . atop his dragon , he flew south to lay claim to what remained of valyria &. reestablish the freehold along with his thirty thousand men . neither emperor aurion nor his host were ever seen again .
HOUSE BELAERYS , dragon lords &. rulers of old valyria ; a family built tall , strong , not just for the gods they ride but the magic they allegedly wielded when valyria was still a proud , ever looming presence upon the rest of the world . a history of human sacrifices that turned river water into blood , where they are familiar with the chewiness of human flesh , ripping the delicate meat from the bone as they basked in the power that came from such atrocities . some say they were mortals attempting to become gods , to take the power from the heavens &. reclaim it as their own . . . or perhaps they were already gods , sentenced to a lifetime of prison within flesh &. they knew they were meant for more , but with limitations by physicality , it was the only way to reach the god dna woven inside them , to feed it , free it from its confines .
the stories that travelled around the seven kingdoms agree with one thing , that the fall of old valyria was a vengeful act , a punishment for trying to take the place of real godhood through warped fantasies &. twisted acts of self worship . . . but those that survive the doom held different views , that while the wrath of the gods took valyria overnight , it was done because they were close . . . close to unlocking the secrets to immortality &. magic , that they were bringing the heavens down &. claiming it as is their birth right , owed to them by the deities , because even though the gods they worship are respected , they remain equal . a paradox of belief , but when you're the ones making the rules , it doesn't matter where faults lie .
while rebuilding , for a long time , they did not reveal themselves to the new world . while small , they took it upon themselves to declare that they were to bring valyria into the new age , THEY HAD TWO DRAGONS GROWN &. A SELF APPOINTED MISSION . they did not concern themselves with the seven kingdoms ; while the targaryens fought for their rights to rule all , house belaerys fought to gain back everything that they lost , to revive the golden age of old valyria . the new old world would be built in gogossos , on the isle of tears , the largest of the basilisk isles ; ONCE USED BY DRAGON LORDS AS A PENAL COLONY FOR THE WORST CRIMINALS , where torture was the norm , blood magic , as well as slave women being forced to mate with beasts to produce half human off springs - the worst of old valyria would become the very thing that would revive it , it was where the magic lied , all the research &. the twisted discoveries that made the gods so angry in the first place , what a way to spit back in the faces . everything that made valyria what it was would start there &. it would bring them back once more .
&. so the work continued , a safe heaven ; a broken image of what valyria once was , while the greatness was destroyed in one day , it was not built so . HOUSE BELAERYS continued their work , growing their power &. becoming kings and queens in their own right . they did so below the eyes of the new gods &. it didn't take long before whispers began to spread , the ruins collapsed rebuilt , a thriving bustling corner of the world as new names , new power began to take root within the kingdom . until the targaryen's discovered this , and so , two dragonlord families parted were once reunited .
CONFLICT &. FIGHTS , ARGUMENTS &. A TUG OF WAR OF POWER . the targaryen's knew the laws of the land , to protect their position in the 7 kingdoms , they must protect the people from tyrants . in this fight , they were the heroes , another reason why they were placed higher on the iron throne ; the saviours against an ancient way . through this , slaves began to revolt - one of their dragons get grievously injured , another punishment from the gods - this time their wrath brought to them by blood that they would've considered their own . BUT VALYRIA IS GONE , THE BLOODLINES EVAPORATED , SO FEW OF THEM LEFT TO CONTINUE THE LEGACY . . . a meeting was called , HOUSE BELAERYS having a proposition - that while they considered the targaryens weak , pathetic for being so tied to traditions yet refusing to follow it , for harming a dragon , SOMETHING NOT EVEN THEY WOULD SCOOP SO LOW TO DO IN SUCH DARK , UNCERTAIN TIMES , they would bend the knee - they would declare their loyalty to targaryens would allow them to use what they would like from what house belaerys had uncovered &. rediscovered - but they would keep that section of the world , it would belong to the targaryens , but it would be theirs to oversee . that as dragon riders , they should show loyalty to the days of old ; nothing was more powerful than the joining of houses , IF THEY DID SO WITH THE VELARYONS , WHY NOT ONE MORE TO INSTIL POWER , FEAR &. UNITY ?
though a fresh start was needed , the people were unhappy ; there was no coming back from the damage that they caused , but the magic - or science , still ran thick in their blood . &. so a plague spread through the land of gogossos , killing every tenth man , woman , child . those of the belaery's family moved out while it spread , it did so for 20 years - then , they returned , patience was just as important as an iron fist &. with a new generation in tow , they stopped the sickness ( MAGIC OR SCIENCE ? it hardly matters when they're the ones that spread it . ) cared for the city &. its people , while the hostility was still strong , there was a new era on the horizon .
they still practice blood magic , cannibalism on 'special occasions' such as name days &. unifying ceremonies , it wasn't as often as it was before - slavery wasn't as wide spread , becoming more of a system like kings landing ; poverty still exists , the class divide between lords &. workers , but when the horrors of before cannot match that of the current day , it's almost enough to be content .
