Not really an ask, just a raised glass to you for speaking truth to the sheep. As a child, my grandparents put me in Sunday school. Only took a few weeks to learn the church wanted blind and ignorant sheep to follow their "shepherd". But I am no sheep, and I will not be blindly led anywhere. I actually got kicked out of Sunday school for "asking too many questions" and "disrupting the class"... ain't that rich? An inquisitive child turned away for asking questions that they couldn't answer.
Kudos to you. I was just bored out of my brain in Sunday School.
Consider what this means, though.
If their silly myths were “true,” they couldn’t be assed explaining the really, truly factual facts about this completely true thing to a child, in order to save them. They were content to simply condemn a child to the fires of hell because it was too much effort to explain all the actually real answers, of which there were plenty.
This kind of telegraphs an admission from them about how convinced they are of their own beliefs, given it was that easy to wipe their hands of you. It was a higher priority to get you and your questions out of the way of the other children than to save your completely not-imaginary immortal soul. The questions of a child could undermine and unravel the narrative they were trying to sell. Nothing says “my story is utter horseshit” like fearing the logic and scrutiny of a child.
Imagine if a real teacher did that. “You’re asking too many questions about prime numbers, so I’m banning you from class.”
Education and curiosity really are anathema to religion.
