Does anyone else feel like Disney world found projections and tv screens , realized they could use them on rides and then stopped putting in any fucking effort.

I was on the Ariel ride and the line was actually more immersive than the ride.

Spaceship earth has such amazing animatronics, they actually creeped me out- where the hell is that effort now?

For the amount they make people pay and for all they boast about creativity and innovation; it’s lackluster at best.

I was a Disney kid, I’ll always be a Disney kid but I think they need to fire their current imagineers or something. Idk who died, maybe it was the only singular person who could make decent animatronics but please , someone, hire a new guy.

Also, for fucks sake, cover the scaffolding in the ceiling. No want wants to see that, I want to be immersed, not see bars and lights and shit

Concept art for Space Mountain by John Hench, 1964 or 1965.  At the time it was imagined they would build a giant “space roller coaster” attraction.  As seen in this preliminary version, portions of the ride would be outside.  

Walt wanted this new rollercoaster, which he called ‘Space Voyage”, to be the focal point of Disneyland’s renovated Tomorrowland planned for 1967.  But his death in 1966 and the emphasis on preparing for the newly announced Disney World project forced imagineering to put aside the design of Space Mountain.

After the initial success of WDW, it was decided to build the attraction at the Magic Kingdom.  Disney got RCA to sponsor the ride, which included $10 million to help build it;  Space Mountain finally opened in January 1975.

The Imagineering Story is truly an incredibly cool watch, worth your time.

But one really illuminating bit is in the first episode, these OG imagineers are giving interviews like:

Yeah I was just a painter but they asked me to design something I'd never heard of from scratch. I said 'I dunno how' and they were like 'figure it out' so I did and anyway three weeks later I was the head of construction on a ride which launched my 50 year career as top brass with Disney.

Annnnnd THIS is what Boomers really think it's still like to get a job and rise the ranks in any industry. "Just show up and try doing stuff" like Gladys this ain't WED in the 50s it ain't work that way.
