swing theory from the jp fandom

A friend of mine shared a ✨ creepy theory ✨ that’s collecting steam on the JP side of the Twst fandom… I wanted to share it with y’all 🤗

Essentially, the theory goes that “Swing” isn’t the man we assume he is, but rather the centipede around his neck. The man we assume is “Swing” is actually a corpse the true Swing (the centipede) is piloting around. This would explain the unusual skin color. And his Disney inspiration, Oogie Boogie, is basically a sack controlled by bugs (squirming inside), right??

Furthermore, “Swing” appears to wear a baggy jacket which resembles a body bag used by the U.S. army for deceased personnel, right down to the color. One JP Twitter user (@/konpeitar) points out that the boots “Swing” wears even appear to be similar to military ones. They suggest that perhaps “Swing” was an important figure in the military.

The “military” connection is particularly interesting, because Swing calls Briar Valley “Briarland” in the event. Notably, “Briarland” was the ORIGINAL name for the northern continent, BEFORE the human-fae war that resulted in the majority of the nocturnal fae’s land being taken from them. Now, we don’t know if Swing is from Briarland or if he’s familiar with what became of the country, but this is still a vague connection to a war and, by extension, the militaristic groups fighting in it.

I don’t necessarily think this theory is canon (it definitely is a little too dark for Twst), but it’s just a fun idea to play around with!
