Roles I'd like to see Sam Claflin in
So I don't think I'm the only one (for once lol) who likes to imagine roles for my favourite actor. Here are mine:
a detective - he'll be something of the kind in Lazarus (if that thing will ever see the light of day) but I'm thinking a proper private eye, who sometimes bends the law and might have a conflicted inner life. The GQ photoshoot already gave us Sam in a long trench coat, one my absolute favourite pictures of him.
a pirate - he already starred in a pirate franchise; he was apparently set to return for the 5th instalment but they changed their minds (though he was supposed to be a cartographer, not a pirate; I would have liked that as I like maps). He once said in one interview that he would like to do more POTC and become a pirate, I'd be chuffed if this happened, though I'm not sure how likely it is. Still, there's other stories. Maybe a Treasure Island adaptation? Black Sails served as a prequel to this and it did really well, so idk if people would want more from these characters. There is also Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier, in which the titular Frenchman is a hot pirate, though it's more of a romance. He's already done one du Maurier adaptation, so why not another one?
a heist - you can't beat a good heist, and Sam as slick heist gang leader, elegantly dressed would melt all of our hearts! George Clooney who?
a vampire - vampire fiction is not my thing, but I'd totally be for a vampire Sam, it would be something different.
any action film, preferably with lots of comedy moments - I love stupid action tropes: car chases (gods I can't get enough of car chases), scaling skyscrapers, jumping out of helicopters, breaking through glass without suffering a single cut, shooting guns with both hands while falling, fights in bars/clubs while (live)music plays, give me all of that! One of my favourite scenes of all time is the meat or potatoes one from Sherlock Holmes 2009. I f I could see Sam in anything like that, I wouldn't ask for anything more, I swear! In fact, give me Sam in a Guy Ritchie flick!
a Viking - as I just decided today, Sam needs to play a Viking. Sea, fighting, crazy hairstyles, a romance with a shield-maiden! (And he has worked with 2 Danish directors, Lone Scherfig (twice) and Bille August!)
a firefighter - so that @jesstasticvoyage can have all her Christmases come at once. I thought there could be a film about the Grenfell fire and Sam could play a firefighter. I think it's something he would like to do, he mentioned once that his grandad was a paramedic. Pierre Niney, the other Monte Cristo guy, played a firefighter, so if they already have one role in common, why not two? I insist, though, that he has to rescue a kitten. If he doesn't rescue a kitten, I'm returning the product to the seller!
an elf or a Vulcan/Romulan in Star Trek - bc his ears are so distinct, it would be fun to see him in something where he has to have prosthetic ears. Elf: I once said I'd like to see him in an epic fantasy like Rings of Power, which has elves (or smth else from that universe), but it doesn't even have to be that, a children's live action film would do, honestly. Another option is a Vulcan or a Romulan in Star Trek--which you know, Star Trek is one of my things, though I've not been keeping up with the latest shows.
a character in an Agatha Christie adaptation, but is has to be 1. a good adaptation and 2. not a murderer or a victim. It circles back to the first point about a detective; there are some amateur sleuths in her books, in this case he obvs would not be a private eye as he is not a good choice for Poirot, but he can just play one of the suspects who turns out to be innocent. Possibilities are Major Despard in Cards on the Table, Colin Lamb in Clocks, Geoffrey Raymond or Major Blunt in Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Blunt is supposed to be older, but it a younger one would work too and then there would be a smaller age gap between him and [redacted to avoid spoilers]). And many others.
an artist - he has done a rockstar, a writer, a screenwriter and a cameraman, so all that remains is an artist. John William Waterhouse in a biopic/biopic about pre-Raphaelites perhaps?
a humanities professor - this one has been mentioned by other fans too. Can be dark academia or not.
a scientist or a tech expert in a thriller. Someone who saves or helps save the day.
in the past I would have said a superhero in MCU (or even DC) but I have not been following MCU for a good couple of years now, idk just lost interest I guess (I might return to it). But if the Barbaric series does go ahead, then that's just as good. If not better!
an older Finnick Odair who happily lives with Annie and their son and Johanna as their adopted aunt. They told the wrong story in Mockingjay, it never happened.
anything funny. So much of his stuff is so dark/serious, the guy needs to do more comedy. As the shirtless dancing in the kitchen video proves, he has the talent for it. Come on just make us laugh, Sam!
