It was probably a dumb thing to do, but it had been the best she could come up with.  He ahd been kind to them-- to say the least. Covering her dad’s shifts when no one forced, nudged or even asked him was an extraordinary thing to at this day and time. 

So, there she was-- a nice cup of coffee from CC Jitter’s in her hand (and a muffin in a bag. She wasn’t going to let poor man starve, after all.), entering the police office and approaching Eddie’s desk. Her dad said he’d be doing paperwork tonight, and he had been right. This might even end up good.

                 “-- Hey. I brought you coffee.”

     Barry let out an exasperated sigh. “I’m not saying!  I’m just-- we should be careful that’s all. I know you can  handle yourself, I mean, you’ve helped out before, remember?”
