❝Why do you help me?❞
braveheart → the sentence meme
he sighed softly at the question, looking down at his hands.
❝ consider it atonement... ❞
Thank you for the advice. It really made me think. I DO love dance, and I DON'T want to quit. I guess I just started to get a little hopeless. But I've decided that, at the end of this year, if I am still not happy in this class, I will just cut the class. I do a private class that I enjoy. The owner of the studio helps me and I get to do solo dances where they need extra time. I won't get as much stage time, but atleast I'll still be dancing. I just hope it works out. Thanks again for your advice. <3
You're welcome hun! I'm glad you were encouraged and can figure out a way to keep dance in your life! Life's a rollercoaster, and sometimes you might feel hopeless...just remind yourself that it's not permanent and try to pick yourself up!
XOXO
Hi, so I've seen you give some good advice before, and so I was wondering if you could help me out. I've been at this little family dance studio near my house for my entire memory. I used to love it there, and I still do have SOME attachments, but due to drama and my favorite teacher leaving, it's just not how it used to be. Now, I have a different teacher, and while she's a great choreographer, she doesn't change things up. Any time you see her name in the choreography for a dance, you know it's all going to center around this one girl, Sarah. Don't get me wrong, Sarah is beautiful, and a very strong dancer, and she deserves all the parts she gets- but no one else ever gets a chance to prove themselves. I work hard, and only skip a class if I'm nearly on my death bed, yet I never get a good part!In one of the dances we're doing now, I was supposed to dance on pointe, but because no one else is going to be on pointe in my part, she took me off. I was really hoping she would just pull me forward and make my own little piece out of it, and so I was practically in tears when she told me. Basically, this dance class, and this little incident, has made me want to give up dance all together, I'm just so disheartened. I love dancing, but I pretty much dread going to class now. No one even seems to want me around. My old teacher was like my best friend, and now I have no friends. I don't think I can make dance a career, and I'm almost 18, so I need to quit eventually, and switching studios is not realistic. So I guess what I'm asking is; Do you think I should stick it out for another year until college, or quit now?
I'm gonna tell you what I told someone else earlier. Do not base whether or not you continue to dance on the actions of one person or studio! There are a lot of other dancers and teachers in the world besides the small family dance studio you've been a part of your entire life!
Respect your teacher's decision to take you off pointe for the good of the piece. And don't take it personally. There are bound to be other reasons for that decision that do not revolve around you! Who knows, maybe another parent complained that you got to do pointe while her daughter didn't. Maybe it just didn't look good on stage to have one person en pointe. You can never know the whole story or a person's internal reasoning, so you can't take it personally or speculate. Accept the decision and deal with it. It's okay to feel bummed about it, but you just gotta do your best to buck up and move past it! Be the "bigger man," so to speak. We're all just specks in the universe, after all!
Also, why do you dance? If you love to dance, you should never quit! Why do you believe that you need to quit eventually just because you don't plan on making a career out of it? Most people that dance don't become professional dancers or even teachers. So what? That doesn't mean you can't keep dancing! That's like saying kids shouldn't bother playing soccer in school, or there's no point to community softball leagues, just because they'll never go pro! The purpose of dance shouldn't be to make it into a career. Sure, it's way awesome to have a career doing something you love...but just because it's not your career doesn't mean it can't be part of your life!
Do you quit reading books because you aren't a novelist or an editor? Do you quit watching films because you aren't a big Hollywood director or a film critic? Why quit dance if you love it?
If you are truly unhappy at this studio, but you love to dance, I would say do your best to find a way to take class elsewhere. Even if there are no studios you could switch to, are there any universities or community colleges that offer dance classes? Or even a YMCA? Could you give yourself daily class in your house? Are there other dance disciplines you could try elsewhere for fun so that you're at least dancing and happy? Even something like a ballroom dance club? Or at least something movement based like yoga or tai chi? Then, when you go to college, there will a whole new realm of possibilities for dance in your life! You don't have to quit in college! It's a great way to stay in shape and keep your endorphins up. You'll need stress relief from your studies!
Take class for the joy of dancing, not for the end goal of a part or a job! You don't have to quit just because it's not going to be your career!
That's my take on it, anyway :)
Don't let other people get you down. Do what will make you happy. Find a way to dance.
