After watching “Moonrise Kingdom”, it is apparent that Wes Anderson is a master of curating music that is complimentary to his film style. The album is carefully produced and takes many cuts from Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra”, “Noye’s Fludde” and “Songs from Friday Afternoons.” The classical, whimsical, and charming style is continued with Alexandre Desplat’s wonderful contribution. His 17 minute “Heroic Weather-Conditions of the Universe” suite is broken down into 5 separate tracks and although simple in structure, it is effective and purely magical. I would have liked to see Desplat’s contribution piled together as one long suite rather than separated, but the track choices in between are strong enough to warrant a high rating for yet another successful Anderson album - 8/10.
