I only discovered The Smiths, Elvis Costello, and Adam & the Ants in recent years. I always thought new wave was like, all that late 80s synth stuff. I'm sad at how much good music I've missed! Got any suggestions for essential artists to check out?
Hmm. You hit my top three for sure. My knee-jerk reaction was to also try out Gang of Four. They’re very different from the three mentioned, but one of my all-time favorites.
Others that I really enjoy are Talking Heads, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Police... You might really like Joy Division, especially couched in the context of Ian Curtis’ struggled with epilepsy and depression. I first started enjoying Joy Division in grad school after taking a class about literature and disability -- it had never really resonated for me before then.
I’d definitely say give Gang of Four (start with “Entertainment!”) and Joy Division a chance, if no other ones.

Men’s baseball tees and men’s basic solid-colored tanks are the base layers that will make your dreams come true.
Invest in at least one versatile pair of lace-up Vans.
Black unisex sunglasses (and prescription glasses) are a godsend.
Get some non-stretchy denim (women’s) jeans in a solid wash (should be almost uncomfortably tight when you first put them on, will stretch after a few hours and then fit comfortably for WEEKS). I recommend the ASOS Whitby cut, which has a pretty generous range of sizes (I wear a 34 in this style and am a big 14/small 16 in most US sizes).
Bras that keep your boobs high and in place will keep you looking more put-together than bralettes (which are lovely, don’t get me wrong, but work better with unstructured looks). I still highly recommend these bras to accomplish that.
Learn to utilize the half tuck.
When Derek was in high school he was a DJ for this oldies station (lol small towns) & would fall asleep a lot & leave dead air. listeners had to call in to wake him up. I had forgotten this adorbs piece of Derek history, so thx 4 having a weird life!
