Hi hi! I just needed to come here to say I just binged all 5 chapters of your kankuten fic. I popped onto AO3 curious if the ship would have anything still since they used to be on FF quite heavily. The LAST thing I expected was to find a current kankuten fic being written! Its so so good and I cant wait to read more for it! Your fic singlehandedly has me wanting to do kankuten art again. Keep doing what youre doing! You're very talented.

This is actually the best thing I've heard in the last couple of months!

I'm so happy (and I mean teary happy) that my kankuten story has reached someone that shares the same view and love for them. I mean, the pair is not something many people go for (which really breaks my heart). And since I want to read about them, the only thing I can do about it is to write something I'd be happy to read.

It's weird that you say that about FF because I've read everything readable about this couple, and the stories weren't that many. Unless I messed up something with the search (which is absolutely possible).

But yes, the stories on Ao3 are fewer. I've even read a few in other languages, using Google Translate. 🫣

Actually (I'll tell you a secret), I was thinking of starting a list about the stories I love about them. 🤭

You already have art about them, you say?? 👀 I've been looking for drawings of them occasionally, and what I found wasn't enough! If you've already done something with them, I've probably seen it. But... can you show me? Please? 🫣

Tell us about your OC fic? 👀

I am SO EXCITED you ask! (thank you 😘)

My original character came after I buried my nose into the giant pile of existing characters without any information attached. For my story, Unmask Yourself, I decided that I needed a few characters from each main village. So that's how I got my hands on Ruka - a character from Kiri who existed only in the anime (I didn't see her in the manga) and, as far as I read, appeared very briefly. A med-nin, a healer 💚 - something I was quite willing to work with. So I created a whole history for her, built her character, and put feelings into the mix.

In this story she was taken as a child from the village due to her useful hereditary ability and taught how to manipulate it in order to use it for undercover missions. She lost a dear friend (like many of the Naruto characters), and she ended up under Mei's wing (she's taken care of her as a fellow kunoichi and mentor, for Ruka was just a child at the time). For example, she has very low tolerance for alcohol, to the extent that it influences her personal ability (the hereditary one).

She has an identity problem and very few to no friends. She's too nice for her own good... but she's learning. She has confidence problems (except for her shinobi job), mainly regarding men.

And to make it more fun, I paired her with Shee, whom I also modified. I tried to keep his character the way we know him but also added to it: added history, behaviour explanations, and details from his past (created by my head), including a group of old women that raised him. He still keeps in contact with them (personally I found this very entertaining 😁). He also has problems (who doesn't?🤔) and opinions on how his life should turn out. And he's quite unwilling to let go of the image despite everything.

So these two are very interesting (to me) to work with and to see where their relationship (which doesn't quite exist yet) would lead.

So what I am working on… Let's see… I'm working on my next chapter of UY: No Fear (UY2). I'm also working on my next gift for a really cool person, which is kind of a priority. But I still haven't decided how long it would be. If it turned out to be a couple of chapters, I may get really delayed. Still, I am hopeful that she'll forgive me. The last thing I'm putting word after word is an original story, which is for a gift again. I have the desire to work on other things, but they are in the wish realm for the moment.

About my recent reading material… Where should I begin?

I read (finally) my friend's story "Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice", which I should have done a year ago. Due to personal hardships in reading and writing, I never did. And I am really ashamed of that, because the story is cute as a button, and I actually loved it.

Now, in the last 2 weeks, I've been reading everything our server's Christmas gift exchange event had to offer.

In order of posting:

SpellCasterLight's "When Covered in Snow" brought me so much mush and fluff. My favourite scene is actually the moment when Temari blocked Shikamaru's entrance at the door on their way in and told him that he could write to her. That she's a good listener.

Majsasaurus's ShikaTema Witcher AU was an interesting snippet of a chapter. Although not Christmas or winter related, personally I like The Witcher.

Servenna's "Troublesome Traditions" was especially fun to read, and it was a whole 3 chapters. My personal favourite moments are when Shikamaru manages to shoot a snowball at her from under the blanket, when she kicks off the snowman's head, and when the dee(a)r doe bites her at the end. And your art! I love that as well.

TheSpookyMoth's "Blanket Full of Love". Kankuro and Temari's interactions were my best moments. And I'd add the moment she said, "Let's go; I'm hungry." :D

SillySnowden11's "Beautiful Family Chaos". It was a mess in the very funny and fluffy meaning of the word. I enjoyed it the most when Temari and Karui entered the kitchen with freaked-out Ino. And the splashed cupboards with sauce. It was damn fun.

notquitejiraiya's "The Quiet In Between" showed me an interesting point of view of a character I'm not particularly familiar with. I had no idea that Konohamaru's birthday was almost on New Year's Eve. I liked the end, when Naruto and he threw snowballs at each other, like recreating a very dear memory of Konohamaru. It was very sweet.

Your "Thawed Out" was really something. And since you ask me about a favourite moment, it's when Shikamaru offers Temari his thirteenth raisin. You nailed it!

Clumsydragons's "The Taste of Snow" is most fresh in my memory. My favourite parts are when Temari finds the postcard with Ino on it. And then when Shikamaru wants to please her and look for more postcards, he finds one of Ino as well.

I can’t reply to the ask answer so I’m just gonna send another! But I do have a couple kankuten drawings on this blog already. They really old and I honestly am thinking about redoing them cuz now I don’t like how they look very much, but if you search kankuten on my blog they should pop up! I’m in the middle of drawing some stuff for them as we speak so I’ll definitely let you know when I post them! It really is a shame this ship doesn’t get more love. It has so much potential. Maybe I remember there being more fics for them when I was younger. Or maybe they’re lost to wild due to the way people used to tag things back then. But I can definitely say so far your fic has been one of my all time favorites! You do such an amazing job fleshing them out but showing you understand the characters. I can’t wait to read more from you!

I love the drawings. I have never seen them before, though.

I think there are still some fics for them, but maybe my view of "many" and yours are not the same, perhaps? 🤔

Anyway! Thank you for the treat! And definitely let me know if you redraw them or do something new with them. Because I don't know about general people, but I will bathe them in my personal love.

And now, when I know someone is waiting to read the story, I may bring my lazy ass to actually finish the first draft (worry not, it's planned at least... which is a big thing for me 🤭).

That’s actually a really honest take and I like how you think about flaws + humour together. It usually makes characters feel more real when it’s done right.

Also, the fact that you moved from reading to writing is a big shift already

I've been writing occasionally since my teenage years. However, I've never completed a whole piece of writing, and I've always written in my own language. The brain works differently since the grammar is quite... well, different.

The great shift was when I realised I won't find people to share my passion with if I don't try English :)
